Friday was Briley's 1st birthday and they came back to Kirksville for a fun birthday weekend. We met them for lunch at El Vaquero on Friday and then my parents left for St. Louis for a Cardinals game. Jackson was lucky enough to go with them. They planned on coming home after the game but a rain delay made the game start late and they wanted to be able to see some of the game, so they stayed overnight. Jackson had a great time and they said he behaved well. Before he left, he ran down to the playroom and came up with his Cardinals foam finger that Sara, Ryan, and Lissy gave to him for his first birthday. So he took that and his glove and waited all night for a ball to be hit to him. He clapped and danced hoping one would come his way, but to his great disappointment, it never did. He'll get another chance when we go to a game on July 4th.
Saturday was Briley's birthday party. I think Jackson and Ellie had as much fun as she did with her presents. They helped her open them (Jackson was sometimes a little overzealous about it) and also tried them out for her. Andy and Autumn did a great job with all the decorations- it was a good party. There was also a special surprise- releasing a dove. Kevin Powell has been training homing pigeons to be released at special events. His mom and girlfriend brought one by to see how it would do as a special surprise for Briley's party. I think it eventually made its way back home after 3 hours. Andrew was after a different bird-it was the first weekend of turkey season and he got one in the first several hours he was out.
