A Modified Spring Break

This week begins Jackson's spring break, so we headed to the Depot Inn in LaPlata to start it off. Andrew and I kept joking about how far away it was-did we need to fill up the car, should I get snacks, do we have movies for the kids to watch on the ride. . . The hotel was cute. It was filled with all sorts of train stuff that Jackson loved. So we checked in and then wandered around the hotel letting Jackson look at everything and then we went for dinner at the Red Rooster. After dinner we thought we would go watch trains and the hotel provides and observation shelter that is enclosed and was supposed to be heated. We quickly found out it wasn't and we couldn't get the heater going, so we had to head back to the hotel. Two trains went by as soon as we got to the shelter, so at least Jackson got to see a couple. Next up was the pool. Lissy stopped by as we were getting ready to go, so she got to hang out with us a little. We forgot Ellie's swim diaper, so she had her regular one and it filled up quickly. It was hilarious to see her walk around in it. We had just got Jackson in the pool when a birthday party showed up. All the screaming kids running around and splashing kind of did both of them in, so we went back to the room. Jackson's friend Jack from school was at the party. He didn't see Jackson, but once Jackson saw him he started saying, "Jack, Jack. It's me." Since pool time was cut short we had some time to kill, so we hung out in the lobby for a while. They had train magazines that Jackson looked at. The receptionist gave Ellie and Jackson train whistles-they were both excited. Then we rented a movie from the front desk and got some snacks. Andrew fell asleep quickly with the movie on. It took Ellie a while to fall asleep and then Jackson and I battled it out for the next few hours. He wanted me to sleep with him and he is one of the worst people to sleep with. He rustles around and always has to be touching you or be laying across you. So after listening to Ellie cry out every now and then, Jackson roll around on me, and Andrew snore away, I finally went to the other bed and asked Andrew to switch with me. I felt like I hardly slept at all that night (Andrew said the same thing, but the way he was snoring I know he got some sleep), but it was still fun because the kids had a good time.

Our fun continued on Saturday when Andy, Autumn, Briley, Lissy, Kaitlin, and Zane came over for lunch. Jackson and Ellie both still have colds, so they aren't in top shape. But they were still excited to have people over. The girls played together or at least stole things from each other. Then Lissy came over that night for a sleep over. She brought Twister, which provided some entertainment for a while. We never played an actual game by the rules, but Jackson still liked it. So overall, I think Jackson and Ellie had a good weekend. Now we'll see how we do with this next week.
