Days of Summer

Luckily, we have had a few nice days around here. I was able to get my plants for the planting area by our front porch. On Wednesday, I planned on working the soil and putting in some top soil to get it all ready to go, but it was really hard and what I thought was clay-like. So I was concerned about whether or not the plants would grow in that kind of soil (a big waste of money) so I called my mom about it and she said they would come over that evening to look at it. So I spent all afternoon shoveling all of the mud out of the street again from our previous rains (and it is back since we had some strong storms this morning just when they were planning to do the concrete again). I decided it would be nice to invite my family over for dinner since they were going to help me figure out what to do with the soil. My dad decided it was good soil and tried to start planting before dinner. I convinced him to wait, but then he was back out there after dinner ready to go. Andrew was so lucky he was around to contribute- he couldn't really stand around while my dad was planting all of our shrubs. But it was all done in 30-45 minutes. I was so happy because I had planned on doing it the next day and I know it would have taken me all afternoon. So thank you guys very much-you too Andrew! So the next day I took out all the big clods, adding in some Miracle-Gro and some good soil, and put down some mulch. I still need to get some more mulch, but it is looking pretty good or as good as it can while the plants are still pretty small.

Jackson and Addie have had some fun days playing together. A lot of their fun focuses on food though. They will play a little bit and then ask for a popsicle. Then they will play a little more and ask for a snack. I'll tell them to wait a little longer and then they will ask a few more times in the next half hour until I finally give in. Just like the old neighborhood days. They spent part of yesterday digging holes in our front yard looking for bugs to put in their bug houses. Unfortunately, they weren't too successful.

Ellie loves being outside too. She is always ready to go. She even sometimes thinks she needs a bag to go. She'll either grab her diaper bag or some of my old purses/tote bags from my closet. She also likes to find a pair of shoes to wear. We just got her some Crocs and she was so excited she kept showing them to Andrew when he was home for lunch.

Last night was Jackson's first tee ball game. He was very excited. We went to eat at El Vaquero before the big game and the queso dip was especially spicy so Jackson had a lot of sweet tea to drink. He got through the other team batting, which took close to a half hour. Then Jackson was second up to bat and he had a good hit, but then got lost on his way to first base. He ran holding on to his batting helmet and eventually made it there. He was kind of grabbing himself by the time he got to second and by the time he got to third, he was doing a little dance. Andrew was waiting for him at home plate when he ran in and and he scooped him up and asked him, "Do you need to go pee?" Without hesitation, Jackson said, "YES!" I didn't get to see much else because Ellie was acting sick while we were there. She kept grabbing her belly and was really whiny. She wanted me to hold her all the time. At one point she acted like she was going to vomit, so the two of us left so she didn't get sick on everyone. She was fine once we got home. I think her tummy was bothering her a bit.

Well I better go. Addie just came to the front door and said she couldn't come inside, but could she have a snack ? :)
