Tornado Damage

As many people already know, we had a tornado touch down in Kirksville last night. I guess it was actually an F3. It was all happening about the time people were coming over to our house for bible study and Andrew and I had no idea it was going on because we didn't have a TV or radio on. But the first couple that showed up told us there was a tornado warning even though it looked okay around our area. We had some rain and a little wind but then the sirens starting going off. The kids were down in the basement with a babysitter, but most of the rest of us just stood out on the front porch watching the sky. We couldn't see anything where we were, but right as we were sitting down my dad called and told me that Robertson Chevrolet had been hit along with some houses near our old neighborhood. At the end of bible study, one of the girls in our group from Milan had a call from her daughter that someone had died in Milan. We kept getting conflicting reports about deaths in Kirksville and they finally confirmed today that a couple had died when their mobile home was destroyed. They had 63 closed off part of last night and even though Andrew wanted to go check out the damage they wouldn't let anyone through. Traffic has been horrible going north through town and there are all sorts of work crews and news crews in town. There was damage in Novinger and Milan and then throughout parts of northern Kirksville and areas north and east of Kirksville. We went out to check things out this afternoon and one street that leads to an area that had heavy damage is blocked off but people were just parking their cars at the ballpark and walking. We drove by our old house and it is missing some shingles and yard art. The crazy part is that it uprooted the big ash tree that was right in front of the house and the tree crew had it mostly cut up by the time we drove by. The old part of the neighborhood mostly just had some tree and roof damage, but the new part was pretty bad. We used to take walks through that part of the neighborhood all the time and there were a couple houses that had just gone up right before we moved and they had some of the most damage. There were three houses at the end of one cul-de-sac that didn't appear to have any damage and they included the Andersons and the Broces. I forgot to take a picture of the front of our house, but Andrew said the back looked worse, but the cars were backed up along the street so I wasn't able to get a good picture.
