Last week I tried to keep better track of different things the kids said or did since that is the main purpose of my blog-a family journal. Some stories have pictures, some just words and they may go on for awhile we will appreciate it years from now when we look back at the blog books.
Our week didn't start off great as I woke up Monday morning and came out to find water standing on the floor in our kitchen. Somehow a pipe under our sink came loose and I had set the dishwasher to run in the middle of the night and all of the water from the dishwasher flowed out of the pipe into the cabinet under the sink and set on our floor for several hours. We got it cleaned up and put some fans on it and our plumber came by first thing that morning to fix things. The floor will have to be replaced eventually but I think we will just live with it for now.
Now on to a story about Miss Ellie. She is a pretty emotional/dramatic girl. Still not quite sure where she got that from. The other day as they were getting ready for bed, she got into trouble. For what, I don't remember. But when I came into her room to tell her goodnight, she was laying face down on her bed crying. I asked her what was wrong and she said that she wants to do the right thing because that is what God wants her to do (we have been talking about how God would want us to act) but she doesn't know how. She said this with so much disappointment, I really felt bad for her. I am in that same place often. I know what God would want me to do or how he would want me to act but I have such a hard time sometimes being that person. So we talked some more about it and then she started worrying about what would happen to her if she was bad at Disney World. Then she looks at me and pleads with me, "But what am I supposed to do if I can't be bad at Disney World?" I guess that just means she is going to have to be good. :-)
On Thursday, Jackson had his kindergarten music program at school. It was short and sweet. They were lined up to look like an American flag and they probably sang 4/5 songs with actions. Jackson did the actions but a lot of time it was without much enthusiasm and rolling his eyes every now and then. We sat with the Vincents and Wilsons and they all found him pretty entertaining. He said he did not like "Yankee Doodle Dandy" but he did like the last song they sang (I can't remember it right now). Ellie loved that we got to walk to his room afterwards and pick him up to take him home.
Ellie also loved that later in the day I decided to let her join him for Little K. Even though she won't be in kindergarten for another year, Kevin thought it would be fine if she came. He went with Zach but he told me he really wanted her to come and he would take care of her. So I decided at the last minute to take her. They were already started when we walked in and it was loud. Jackson was sitting in the back so Ellie started walking towards him but got nervous and came back. So I took her over to Jackson and he was so excited to see her. As I walked away, my heart jumped with joy as I saw him put his arm around her. Andrew picked them up and brought them to my parents where we were having dinner and they were still excited. Then after we got home from my parents I noticed "America's Best Dance Crew" was on. So I get the bad parent award because I let them stay up and watch a show on MTV. Jackson loves to watch all the break dancing and they all started trying out new dance moves. Jackson wanted to do a head spin, so we even got out a piece of cardboard so he could try it out. I even broke out some old moves. I did a head spider from my old gymnastic days. I wasn't that great at gymnastics, but I could always do the head spider. It is hard to explain, but you put your head on the ground with your hands beside you like you are going to do a headstand. Then you run your legs around in a circle, flipping over to a backbend a quarter way through and then flipping your legs back over again and you just keep going in a circle. Andrew actually took a video of it and it didn't look quite like it used to- a little less arch to the back :-) But I did it-I wasn't sure if I would be able to.
Then on Friday, I took Ellie and Lincoln to the fire station for a tour with the Moms Club. Ellie loved it and Lincoln finally got down at the end to inspect one of the firetrucks.
Then that night we headed to a wedding shower for Erin Schwend and her new family. It was a dessert shower so my mom and I helped out a little making some cake pops and lemon cupcakes. As we were getting ready to leave, Jackson decided to wear his new Converse shoes Lissy got him. Sadly, he still doesn't know how to tie his shoes (our fault) so I was helping him put them on and he said, "When I get older and become a shoe maker, I'm going to make velcro shoes for grownups so I can wear them." Then he also informed me that he thought it would be a good idea if Andrew retired and I went to work at Wal-Mart so we could get free stuff. Then he started telling us on the way to the reception that he knew what he was going to get us for Christmas-or at least one of us because he didn't know if he would have enough money to get it for both of us (he would save up though). He said he saw these really special $2 bills and he thought they would be great Christmas gifts. I love conversations with Jackson. But then we get to the shower, he finds his friend Tony and they are quickly out on the dance floor trying out the new dance moves he learned from America's Best Dance Crew. It was nice to see different people including my old basketball coach who moved to Columbia years ago. I think we both started feeling old-him seeing one of his players with three kids and me hearing about his son who is a sophomore in high school and remembering a picture I had of him sitting in his car seat holding a plaque from our second place district game. Saturday was a pretty busy day. It was prom day so I tried to help out my parents a little since they were hosting a prom dinner. Andrew took Jackson and Ellie out to the ranch in the morning and he and Jackson did a little turkey hunting. Lincoln and I were getting everything ready to head over to my parents and he was playing out in the garage while I loaded some stuff in the car. I went into the house to get some more stuff and came out to find Lincoln sitting in the driver seat of the Suburban acting like he was driving. He was loving it. He had climbed into the car from the passenger door I had left open, so I closed the door and went around to get him out and put him in his car seat. But he had locked the doors. I didn't have a spare key and Andrew was out at the ranch. So I tried to get him to hit the unlock button and he kept hitting the button, but it was on the side to lock it instead of unlock. He thought it was all so funny and crawled around the car, found his paci and Tadbit, found a granola bar and just had a great time. I called Andrew and he headed into town. I started cleaning the garage and kept working on trying to get him to unlock the door. Then about 20 minutes into the ordeal, he finally pushed the latch over for one of the passenger doors and I was able to open the door. Andrew showed up about a minute later. Thankfully we were just in the garage and he didn't get upset at all. And then since Jackson and Ellie got home, I ended up dropping them off at the K-Life house for the final Little K play day. Only to pick them up 1 1/2 later and then drop Jackson off at a birthday party. Ellie, Lincoln and I spent the rest of the day at my parents getting things ready. The theme for their dinner was like the Mad Hatter Tea Party. My mom had some really cute decorations. She is amazing.
Molly looked absolutely gorgeous. It is so hard to believe that she is graduating this year.
We have a picture with Molly when she was just a year old and Andrew and I were getting ready to go to our Winter Dance our junior year. So we had to take one for her final high school dance.
Lincoln hung out with my dad a lot of the day just following him around the yard. He was a lucky boy because he got 2 Milky Ways and chocolate milk for lunch and then got a ring pop after dinner. He was looking pretty sticky, so he didn't get in on any prom pictures.
After the prom dinner we headed over to the school for the Grand March. You have to get there kind of early to get a seat, so Ellie spent the time acting like she was talking to Briley. I love how she even has her ear covered like she is having a hard time hearing make-believe Briley on the other end.
We were all tired by Sunday. My parents went up to Des Moines to help Zane and Kaitlin get set up in their new house. I had to work on my computer because it somehow got a virus and the hard drive had to be reformatted. I was trying to get Quickbooks back on Sunday night and couldn't find the files for the law firm. The only one I found was an old one where the last entry was in June of 2010. Needless to say I was freaking out a little because I had no idea how I was going to make up all the lost book work. I even tried our online backup and for some reason it didn't have the Quick Book files saved like I thought it should. But after some panicking I was able to fix it. Thank goodness. So now back to work and a busy evening. I have to help decorate for a teacher appreciation luncheon they are having tomorrow at Jackson's school. Then Jackson has baseball practice and Andrew and I have a K-Life board meeting.
