Happy Birthday Jackson!!!

Jackson turned 6 on Friday-crazy! He wanted a Super Mario Brothers party, so that is what he got. He took some cupcakes to school (I didn't make the cupcakes, just the sticks that we put in them) and came home with a surprise. Lissy and Caroline surprised him and picked him up to take him to Dairy Queen. He decided he didn't want anything from there but he did bring home something from school.
If you can't tell, that is a baby chick. Jackson's class had some eggs in an incubator and Friday morning they ended up with about 16 baby chicks. Lissy and Caroline were so nice to let Jackson bring some home. We do take them back on Monday. It took Lincoln a while to notice them and then he just wasn't sure what to do.
But on to the party. It was hard to find a Mario cake but I was able to find an icing sheet cake topper on ebay that you just put on top of the icing and then I just added a little extra. I'm glad I got some pictures early because I set the cake on the table in the kitchen and the sun caused the the colored icing to slide down the side.

Then we hung some balloons and some decorations I made.
We had some family come over for dinner including little Baylor who made his first trip back to Kirksville. Jackson had requested chicken scallopine for his birthday dinner quite a while ago but when I mentioned it on his birthday he was quite sure that it was not what he had wanted. But come time for dinner, he loved it. I guess there was just a little miscommunication. So we ate dinner and opened presents to which Jackson repeatedly said, "Awesome." Even when I repeatedly reminded him to say thank you, he would just say, "Awesome."

After we opened presents, I had a little surprise for Jackson- a pinata (Awesome) and some of his friends stopped by to help him out. Problem was that Jackson gave it one whack and it busted open. That never happens. But the kids were still happy to get the goodies inside.

They also had to check out the little chicks of course.

Then after the pinata, we brought out the cake and cupcakes. We all sang to Jackson and everyone dug in. After a while, most of us headed back inside but outside in the dark, sitting at the table were Briley and our friend Kate, enjoying what was left of the cake straight off the cake plate with the serving piece. They were in heaven. It became kind of chaotic with all the kids running around, but it was fun.


These guys really enjoyed Jackson's new night goggles. In the end, I think it was a pretty successful birthday.

The rest of the weekend was spent hanging out with Andy and Autumn and family and getting some stuff done around the house. The kids even got to go swimming in the pool hot tub at my parents' because the weather was so nice. The kids had a great time playing around the yard this evening. We played a little tag, then they decided to try hide-and-seek while I took Lincoln inside and as soon as Andrew was done counting, Ellie popped out of her hiding place. She'll figure it out eventually.
