We got notifications early Monday morning that we were under
a heat advisory for most of the week-so exciting! We did have some rain in the
forecast on Monday but most of it went north of us. While the kids played
throughout the house, I felt like I knocked a lot of things off my to-do list.
We decided to make the move and get rid of cable. So I was getting stuff ready
for that and making sure it would all work okay. I also worked some more on
Lincoln’s party. I didn’t think I would do too much for it but there have been
little things that come up that I just want to get done quickly and hopefully
have everything ready to go for his parties next Monday. And with the heat we spent a lot of time inside.
And Monday evening,
Jackson and Lincoln both started a football camp offered by the high school
team. I planned on dropping them off and running a few errands but ended up
staying and talking to Amanda and Annie. It was nice to visit with them since I
really don’t see anyone. So after the camp, I took the boys with me to put a
package inside my parents’ house that was on the porch, go by Dollar Tree for a
few things and then they helped me vacuum out my car and we ran it through the
wash.
Ellie and her friends were working on making bracelets and
cookies to sell the next day at a lemonade stand. They headed out about 10:45
on Tuesday to get it all set up but then had to put it off for a day or two
since Grace wasn’t able to do it yet. Jackson and Lincoln were supposed to have
football camp that night, but we had a storm blow in just as we were supposed
to be taking them so it was canceled. I was thankful because I was trying to
make dinner and was just finishing it up about the time we needed to leave and
Andrew wasn’t home yet. We also had Alex for a bit, so he decided he wanted to
eat with us too. His dad came to get him but let him stay to eat and we were
going to take him to camp if they were still having it. But then I got a text
from another mom just a little later that said it was canceled so I was saved.
Later, just as I was cleaning up from dinner, I got a call
from my mom. They had flown back from Tampa and were on their way home from St.
Louis when they got a call from Sara and she thought she was in labor. They
were at Hannibal and turned around to head back to St. Louis. Craziness. Then
we finally received the text around 10:15 with a picture of our newest niece,
Annie. She was only 5lbs 7oz. So tiny and so cute. Sara and Ryan totally
weren’t expecting her early and didn’t have a bag packed for the hospital or
much ready. Sara said she had planned to start working on all of it the next
day since they had just gotten back from vacation but Annie had other plans.
Our next couple of days were pretty much the same-working on
things for Lincoln’s party, getting some things ready to take to St. Louis
(Jackson decided my recipe for making chocolate chip cookies was so fast and
easy that he should be able to make them all the time), spending a lot of time
indoors since it was so hot outside and football camp. Ellie and her friends
did eventually get their lemonade stand in. They sold lemonade, cookies and
bracelets. I think Lincoln was their best customer as far as the lemonade went.
He even bought me a cup of it. And Andrew stopped by on his way home for lunch.
The girls only lasted a couple hours, which was more than enough with how hot
it was.
We spent time playing outside in the evenings, but it was
still kind of suffocating. The kids found ways to entertain themselves though.
The last night of football camp they had a cook out and had
the campers run through warmups with the varsity team and had them run some
drills with them. Andrew and I got food for our family and were getting ready
to head up to the stands when Annie told us we probably didn’t want to go up
there as they were performing CPR on a person. He was a grandpa of a couple of
the varsity players. So we took our food over to some tables and visited with
the Williams. They worked on the person for quite a while and then the
ambulance finally showed up and it was a while before they took the patient out.
Sadly, we learned that he didn’t make and that they think he actually choked on
a hot dog. Definitely not how anyone thought the night would go.
Friday morning, we had some unexpected rain. We had planned
a swim play date with some friends and were going to do it early since we were
under a heat advisory. We put it off an hour and started at 11 instead and it
ended up working out great. I had ordered some pizza online the day before and
others brought snacks, so the kids ate all afternoon and had fun swimming. And
the moms enjoyed visiting. Jackson, Zach and Sammy also spent some time going
around the neighborhood doing some Pokemon Go. Jackson can only use it on
Andrew’s phone when he is around, so he just walked along with them.
We cleaned up and then headed home to finish packing, finish
up laundry and load up to head to St. Louis. Jackson stayed home with Andrew
while I took the rest with me. We got into St. Louis that evening, went by the
hotel to check in and drop our suitcase off and then were off to Sara’s to meet
Annie and celebrate Charlotte’s 2nd birthday. The next day we ate
out for brunch, hung out at the house, did a little swimming at the pool and
went out to eat at Fuzzy’s Taco Stand. It was a very hot day and we sweated a
lot. The kids had so much fun playing with their cousins and it was great
visiting with everyone and getting to snuggle with little Annie. I even got a
very quick trip in to Ikea to pick up just a couple of items. We stayed up late
both nights since it always takes a while for the kids to settle down in hotel
rooms. Sunday morning, we went ahead and headed straight to Kirksville in the
morning instead of going back to Sara’s. I had a lot to do for Lincoln’s party
still that couldn’t be done earlier.
So I went straight into that when we got home a little after
noon. I made all the little treats for his Minecraft party, unpacked, did
laundry, picked up the house and did some grocery shopping. I dropped cupcakes
and the rest of the party stuff off at my parents’ house so that everything
would be easier to set up the next morning. Then I went out to eat with Leslie
and enjoyed visiting for a couple hours. While we were in St. Louis, Andrew did
a couple bike rides. He also helped Jackson out a bit on his Pokemon Go game.
They worked a bit out at the ranch and picked quite a few blackberries. At some
point, Jackson ended up in a seed tick nest and now has tick bites all over
him. Poor guy!
