Adventures in Potty Training
So Saturday was set as our big day to start potty training Ellie. We had the whole day to just focus on it and had surprises for her, snacks, and party supplies. We also have a doll that pees after you give it a bottle so they can hopefully learn from the doll. Well, Ellie had a cough Thursday and Friday and then Saturday she woke up with a runny nose and a whiny attitude. She looked miserable. I thought about delaying the potty training but Ellie was still very excited to wear her big girl panties. So we put them on and she kept going back and forth to her potty. She learned how to pull her underwear down, but then she took them off and didn't want help putting them back on. They never got back on and at some point between running back and forth to the potty, she peed. It was mostly soaked up by her dress. So then we just put the underwear back on. And she peed in them. In the meantime, we got the doll out and feed it a bottle. Then it went on the potty and got a party and some skittles. Ellie became pretty possessive of the doll and wanted to feed it by herself (again she was not in a good mood). Well, the water from the bottle got all over the doll so it messed up the point of the doll staying dry and not peeing in his pants. So we acted like the doll had an accident and had to change it and had it practice running to the potty. After watching the doll go on the potty (you had to squeeze his leg for the water to come out) Ellie thought all she had to do was sit on the potty and squeeze her leg and she was done. So she was upset that she didn't get her surprise for squeezing her leg. After all of this it was nap time, so back in a diaper and potty training was done for the day. Being sick definitely does not help. Sunday we put her in pull-ups and she would still run back and forth, but wouldn't actually go on the potty. Jackson kept asking if she got her surprise yet and so he got fed up with it and said, "Ellie, lets go to the potty." He took her in the bathroom and helped her get situated. He came out and then Ellie came out a little later to get Jackson. They both came out excited because she went on the potty. He kept giving her hugs. Then we had a little party, she got a My Little Pony, and we all had some skittles. She was very proud of herself and so was Jackson. I'm not going to push it thought until she starts feeling a little better and is in a better mood. She is such an independent little girl that this may be a little rough. I just hope it is easier than it was with Jackson
