This past week Kaitlin and her kids were in town and they
gave us a call Monday after lunch requesting that the twins come over in play.
I had planned on laying them down for a nap and getting some stuff done so we
had to change our plans. My mom, Kaitlin and I worked on Disney planning for a
bit while the kids played. When it was time for me to pick up the other kids
from school, the twins weren’t happy about going so my mom said they could stay
and someone would bring them home later. They got home as I was getting an
early dinner ready since we had our first 3on3 basketball practice that night.
We just had the practice in our back yard and we had both Jackson and Ellie’s
teams. I really didn’t know what to do as far as coaching, so of course I
Googled it and came up with a game plan. We did some ball handling drills and
dribble knock out first then worked on posting and driving in then throwing
out. Finally we got around to scrimmaging and the boys were just too much for
the girls. We only had three girls so we gave them a break for a bit and Andrew
and I jumped in on the scrimmage. Overall I think we had a pretty good
practice. Later that evening I got a notification on my phone for Ellie’s
tumbling which we had totally forgotten. We hustled around and made it on time
though.
Tuesday after school we had a neighborhood egg hunt. I
filled up our eggs in the morning after grocery shopping and I put the leftover
candy in a bag on our ironing board. Well Buddy found it that afternoon while I
was cleaning the kids’ bathroom. I couldn’t find him anywhere and didn’t even
think to look in the closet. The day before he had chewed up some train tracks
in the basement and while I was cleaning that up he found the trash in
Jackson’s room. And of course, Jackson had food containers in his trash can
even though he isn’t supposed to. Buddy enjoyed an empty carton of ice cream
and box of Cheezits. He also managed to get the twins breakfast off of the
counter and eat all of it. As you can imagine, Buddy is not on the nice list
right now.
For the egg hunt, some of us moms met up to hide the eggs
before picking up the kids from school. We decided to use both our front and
back yard along with several other front yards which meant I need to make sure
the poop was picked up and the random dead bird that was in our front yard. And Buddy was there again, trying to get into
some of the eggs so he spent the rest of the time inside. We collected money
for a golden egg and decided to do three eggs-a golden one with $30, a silver
with $10 and a smaller golden one with $5. Andrew ended up picking up the kids
from school since he was going for a bike ride, so I hid the money eggs while
the others picked up their kids. I also found some silver spray paint and
quickly painted an egg silver since we didn’t have a silver egg yet. Sharon and
I both made the mistake of hiding an egg in one of our vent pipes on the side
of the house and they got stuck. So I had to untangle a wire hanger and was
able to fish them out. We had to keep the kids inside for a while when they got
home from school and Kaitlin and my mom brought Owen and Lola over to join in
on the fun. I got the twins up a little later and they were not happy campers
and weren’t very interested in the egg hunt. It took a lot of convincing and
just dragging them down the street to get in the big picture.
After a few instructions, they were off. The twins
finally got into it after a bit. Everyone found some eggs pretty quickly and
then the hunt was on for the money eggs. I guess I did a pretty good job hiding
them because it took a while for them to be found. A couple other girls from
the neighborhood got the big eggs and Ty got the $5. After the hunt, Ellie and
I had to eat a quick dinner of leftovers before we left for gymnastics.
Wednesday was business as usual although we did pick up
some lunch and take it over to my parents after school so the twins could play
with Owen and Lola. We had our first severe thunderstorm of the season later
that night and a lightning strike caused a fire alarm upstairs to beep and I
think it kind of freaked Ellie out. I don’t think she slept that well the rest
of the night (plus she stayed up late reading Harry Potter). Thursday, sadly,
brought cold weather and some random flurries. A few times it was snowing
pretty well but nothing stuck. I stopped by Dollar General after I dropped off
the kids at school and was able to get almost everything I needed to finish out
my last baskets for the KLife 3on3 silent auction. Kaitlin and her kids came
over about the time the twins got out of school and they got to play for a
little bit before the twins went down for a nap. That evening Ellie had dance
class and I yelled for her to get ready a couple of times but she never
responded. I found her actually asleep in her room with the noisemaker on and
under the covers. She never does that, so I think her night before had caught
up with her. We went over to my parents after we dropped Ellie off at dance
class and had dinner. The twins were very excited that my mom agreed to them
having a sleep over the next night. A random funny story from Thursday was that
as we were heading out of the house for school, I noticed Lincoln sneaking
something into his backpack. It ended up being a slice of pizza. But what I
didn’t realize until we were already on our way to school was that he didn’t
even put it in a bag and just shoved it into his lunchbox J.
The kids didn’t have school on Friday and we eventually
made it over to my parents after I made the sugar cookies. Sara and her family and
Lissy showed up a little after we got there. The kids were excited to see each
other and played for a while until it was time to head home so we could go out
to Matthew and Kristin’s. They had an Easter dinner for us and Kristin even set
up an Easter egg hunt for the kids in their basement.
We stayed there until about nine and headed home. We
dropped Andrew off at home and then I took the kids to my parents for their
sleepover. The twins were so excited. Owen had helped them get their sleeping
bags set up when they were there earlier in the day. It was a basement full of
sleeping bags and kids. I got them settled in and visited for a bit before
heading home. The next morning, Andrew went to the office and then out to the
ranch. I found Cutting Edge on Amazon
Prime and put it on while I did an 8 mile run on the treadmill. My pelvic area
was pretty sore afterwards though. After
getting ready, I went to my parents where we had lunch and then took some of
the kids to the movies. Andrew swung by to get the twins to lay them down for a
nap. Lincoln was fine just staying at my parents while Jackson and Ellie went
with me, my mom, Briley, Bella and Kaitlin to see Miracles from Heaven. It was a wonderful movie and I’m so glad
Jackson and Ellie got to see it. They also said they really liked it.
Soon it was time to head home, bathe
and get ready for the Easter bunny to come. We didn’t talk much about it before
hand so the twins, and even Lincoln, weren’t too sure about all of it. Ellie
was anxious to get up the next morning and we told her she had to wait until 7.
I could hear her moving around up there before then and a little before 7 she
stomped on the floor for us to wake up. She had them all downstairs soon but
the twins weren’t quite ready to go searching for their baskets. The older
three found their baskets in various places in the basement while the twins
eventually joined in and found theirs on the main floor. The kids enjoyed
checking out their new little toys and candy but it was time for everyone to
get ready for church.
Easter was not a pretty day. It rained most of the
morning, including while we were going in and out of church. We had a good
service with a great message. I needed to make a run to Wal-Mart (Aldi was
closed for the holiday) so Andrew was nice enough to just drop me at the door
and they all waited in the car while I quickly shopped. Then it was back home
to put it all away, change the laundry and then head to my parents to finish
setting stuff out for their brunch while they were still at church. We ate when
they all got back and then it was time for the big egg hunt. I had offered up
our house for it but no one wanted to head across town, so we waited down in
the basement while they hid the eggs upstairs. Ellie was the lucky finder of
the golden egg which was hid in Jackson’s stinky shoe in the shoe basket.
Several of us had looked in the basket but not actually in the shoes. She was
so excited.
But it was all over quickly and everyone packed up to head home.
Andrew put the twins down for a nap when we got home and then passed out on the
couch. I worked my way through a lot of laundry and prepped some things for
dinner that night before we sat down to watch Mockingjay Part 2. We were able to get it on Vidangel for $1 which
was awesome. Andrew woke up about an hour into the movie and finished watching
it with us while Ellie watched reruns of Fixer
Upper in our bedroom. When the movie was over, it was time to get dinner
ready. Andrew grilled steaks while I took care of the rest and we ended our
weekend with a yummy family dinner.
