Tueday afternoon, a little before school let out, I got a call from the Primary School principal. She quickly informed me that no one was in trouble but that she had Ellie in the office as part of a new addition to their Positive Behavior System-the Positive Referral. A student that has done really well in class can be referred to the principal's office as a reward and they get to call a parent. Ellie was a little shy when she got on the phone but you could tell she was excited. This is the form she got to bring home.
Wednesday we had our Small Group barbecue. Our group is actually splitting up a bit this year so that a few others in our group can become leaders. I am sad to see it happen, but I know it needs to. We decided to get together one last time with our old group and any new people that will be attending. Since it was so hot, my parents were very nice to offer their pool for the barbecue instead of us all roasting in our backyard. Tiffany and Leah met me there in the morning to help me bring out some tables and benches so that I didn't have to get my parents to help. I knew it would be much nicer to do it in the morning that before the barbecue. And things went pretty well that night, except for a few dads having to go in for some kids. But all was well and the kids had a blast swimming and there was enough shade for us adults to enjoy some conversation and a lot of good food. Leah and Joe stayed around afterwards and were awesome help in getting everything cleaned up.
Thursday morning seemed to come early. As the time got closer for the kids to go to school and Andrew wasn't home yet, I decided I should go ahead and take them. I was needing to go grocery shopping anyways. I got the twins up and ready. Andrew got home just in time to take the kids to school, but I told him I would do it since we were all ready to go. I think he was grateful to not have to do the whole drop-off thing. We did fine except it was kind of hard getting the twins to leave Lincoln's room. They wanted to play with the toys and were not ready to go. Having to wrestle one upset toddler out of the room can be hard, but trying to get two was challenging. But we made it out to the car and got across town to Wal-Mart before I realized I left my shopping list at home. So we drove back home and came back to Wal-Mart. Then as we were walking in, I realized I didn't have my list with me again. We had to go back to the car and search for it and I finally found it down beside the seat. So my jump start on shopping was quickly dwindling. And to add to the already frustrating morning, Miles and Bennett decided they didn't want to be nice to me-yelling because they wanted the food, throwing stuff out of the cart, squishing the bread, etc. By the time we made it through Wal-Mart and Aldi I think we were all done. We got home, put away the groceries, picked up and were getting ready to go pick up Lincoln when they both decided to have poopy diapers (and one of them decided to head butt me while I was taking him to change his diaper). Thankfully Andrew called about that time and said he would pick up Lincoln or else we would have been late.
Andrew and Jackson had football practice Thursday night and it was a hot one. I had dinner ready when they got home so we could eat and then I had to head to the soccer Meet-the-Coach night at the YMCA. There is usually a line, so I didn't even bother bringing the kids. We learned that Jackson has practice on Tuesday nights and Ellie has it Thursday nights. I was really hoping they would some how end up with practice at the same time. At least half of their games are at the same time so we don't have too spend too many hours on Saturdays at the soccer fields.
Friday was our hottest day of the summer. I went for a run around 6:45 and it was already getting pretty warm. Funny thing was that Alex showed up at our door around 8 in flannel pjs :-). I was finally able to convince him that he probably needed to go home because I imagined his mom wasn't sure where he was. But he and Lincoln did spend some time outside throughout the week in the heat. One day they were in their Batman outfits riding scooters and tractors. Another day they were pirates on our swingset and another day they were trying to catch bunnies with carrots on a string. Friday evening was Jackson's first football game. I thought they may cancel it since we were under a heat advisory, but they did not. It was at five and it was around 102 degrees. Andrew took Jackson earlier and I brought the others a little later. There was no shade to be found. Well almost none. Some people were sitting under some sort of tarp that was near the track and another mom was sitting next to a lamp post that cast a little bit of a shadow. I had some snacks and drinks for the twins and they did amazingly well in their stroller. At least they were in some sort of shade in there. We got there about 10 minutes after the game started and they only went around 45 minutes. My parents and Molly stopped by too to enjoy the heat. Jackson did pretty well. I saw him pull a few flags and make a couple of runs. My pictures weren't that great though.

After the game, we took the kids to my parents and Andrew and I went out to eat to celebrate our 12th wedding anniversary a couple days early. We were ended up just getting Mexican since we were still in our sweaty clothes from the football game. Then we picked up a shake at Sonic to share and drove out to the lake to get a better idea of what the courses for the triathlon looked like. I think he left a little intimidated, but I know he can do it.
Andrew had a busy day Saturday. He got up early to do one last bike/run before taking a rest before the triathlon. Then it was off to David Rouner's bachelor party. It was an all day thing that started with some golf, then a scavenger hunt at the ranch, dinner, and just hanging out watching some UFC fights. The kids and I spent the afternoon and evening at my parents enjoying the pool on yet another hot day. Tiffany and her family were at her mom's along with Tisha, so their kids came over to swim too for a little bit. Ellie was learning to do back dives off the rope and ledge around the pool.
Miles and Bennett got in a little bit in the evening when all the other kids were done. They had fun splashing and kicking on the first step. And then they tried to get daring on the tricycle.
Jackson and Ellie have been inspired by their dad's triathlon training and Jackson has decided that he wants to do a kids' triathlon next year. So we decided to do a practice one at my parents. Jackson swam six laps in the pool, biked 2 times around the block, and ran 2 times around the block. Ellie's was a modified version of 4 laps in the pool, and one time each of biking and running around the block. Jackson made sure he had everything he needed at his transistion point. Andrew was just working on his transitions the night before. They both did a great job-I think it is something we'll have to do again.
Andrew got home around ten Saturday night and was exhausted. But then he had to get up early the next morning to check his cows since he wasn't able to do it Saturday. He took Jackson and Lincoln with him-Lincoln was pretty sad he didn't get to go the day before. They got back in just enough time to get ready and head to the early service at church. I went grocery shopping after church and spent the rest of the day getting some stuff done around the house and getting ready for our first block party. Andrew tried to take a nap in the basement because he was so tired from the past week of his triathlon training and everything else. I washed all the kids sheets and was so grateful to not have to mess with the bunk bed.
Leah convinced all of us that we should have a block party since several new people had moved in around us. Mike was in charge of smoking the meat and us girls set up the tables and did a little bit of decorating. We ended up having a pretty good turn out- I would say close to 60 people. It was nice to actually meet some of the other people in our neighborhood and also get to visit with those we already knew. Miles and Bennett enjoyed all sorts of stuff and looked pretty nasty by the end of the night. All the kids had a blast though. I think it is something we will definitely have to do again. I sadly only got one picture though.
Sunday was also our actual anniverary. I am thankful it wasn't this hot on our wedding. It is hard to believe it has been twelve years since that awesome day or that we have been together for over 20 years now. We have had some wonderful times and some rough times but we have always had each other. Cheesy, I know, but so true. Happy Anniversary Andrew! I love you!!! I wish we could have celebrated like we did last year, but some Mexican and a block party will have to do :-)
And now we get to enjoy a beautiful labor day. The weather is wonderful, so we are going to go enjoy it at the pool. Andrew worked at the office this morning and will work a little more this afternoon. The kids got to celebrate Labor Day by really cleaning their rooms-putting everything in the right spots, organizing, dusting, vacumming, etc. And I actually had a productive morning. So now time for the fun :-). But I almost forgot some cute pictures of the kids. The twins have really been enjoying the trucks/cars/trains lately and the building blocks-such boys. And even though they can be mean to each other (i.e. hit each other and steal things from each other) they also take care of each other-sweet hugs, pats on the back, checking on the other when one is crying. And I love when a little routine we do when I lay them down. I lay one down first and then when I bring the other one in, I pick him up and let him hug the one already in bed. They love it, giggling the whole time.
