Well the rain just kept coming last week. All of our ball games were rained out and it seemed like there were tornadoes somewhere every day. We did have a bit of a break from it Wednesday so we declared it a swim day. Even though it wasn't going to be too hot and the pool heater was broken (thus pretty cold water) we invited some friends over and made it a date. The kids and I went grocery shopping first though. It was our first shopping trip with everyone this summer break and it went pretty well. Jackson pushed a second cart for me so I didn't have to put both the twins in one cart which gave us some more space. We got home, put away the groceries, and then headed to my parents to meet up with everyone. Leah picked up pizza for all of us and we enjoyed lunch by the pool and then the kids went swimming. It was cold but I think they were so excited to swim that they didn't mind. I got some new puddle jumpers for Miles and Bennett and they seemed to work pretty well. I think that Lincoln's was a bit stretched out after a couple summers of use so it was too big for them. The new ones fit them well. They didn't swim but I still wanted them to wear them while they were eating lunch by the pool. I put them down for a nap in my parents house and got to enjoy some adult conversation while the other kids played. It was a wonderful afternoon.
I decided to make homemade waffles for dinner that night. I have only used our waffle iron a couple times and it has been a while. Well the first one I did got stuck on both sides and it took me a half hour to get it all cleaned up and get dinner going again. I now know that I need to spray a little cooking spray on it before I use it next time.
The forecast had rain again Thursday so I got the kids up and told them they could do chores later in the day so that they could play outside before the rain came. The rain ended up holding off for quite a while though and they got some good play time in. I did notice all of them coming out of their houses with stuffed animals though and they all ended up on the LaBeth's front porch.

After lunch, I put the twins down and Jackson was playing on the computer inside while Ellie and Lincoln were outside. I noticed it starting to get pretty dark but it had done this off and on during the day and nothing ever happened but a few sprinkles. Then all of the sudden the wind started blowing pretty hard and it just starting pouring. Jackson opened the front door to look outside which made the back door fly open. I closed it before too much rain got inside and then ran to the garage to see if I could see Ellie or Lincoln. Ellie was standing in the garage but didn't know where Lincoln was. I noticed one of his toys at the LaBeths and then I see Tiffany running out in the rain with him. So I ran too (barefoot) and met her over in her driveway and got Lincoln to bring him home. He was crying and said, "That was not fun." Later he also told me he was worried about me. :-) Our electricity was out when we got back into the house so Lincoln and I got into dry clothes and we just hung out together. The electricity came back on about an hour later, so I was able to get dinner started. After dinner we went for a little drive around town to survey the damage from the storm that afternoon. There were quite a few down trees, limbs, and power lines. Several business lost roofs including the building the Paragon is in. They just had the roof replaced less than a year ago after losing it in storms last spring. And even though it got kind of cool, we stopped and picked up some Dairy Queen. That night Andrew was doing push ups with Jackson and everyone decided to join them including the twins.
It rained off and on again on Friday. I let the kids sleep in since it was such a dreary morning. Then we tried to get started on our summer schedule a bit. They did their chores along with their workbooks. Later in the afternoon the sun was starting to come out so I told the kids to put on some old clothes and they could go play out in the rain. But by the time they got changed, the rain had stopped. They still had fun playing out in the water the rest of the afternoon. We ate an early dinner and then Ellie and I went to her dance dress rehearsal. I worked on some stuff for my parents' anniversary dinner we are planning for them while we are on vacation. Ellie loves rehearsal-getting to dance on the stage, kind of go around on her own and have some independence, and watching the other dances. We stayed a little longer after she was done so she could watch some of Addi's dances. We got home around 9:30 and headed to bed.
On Saturday, the older three went out to the ranch with Andrew while the twins stayed home with me. I was able to get the house cleaned and do some stuff on my Silhouette. One of the things I did was a vinyl cut-out for Ellie as a gift for her recital. I had ordered her some ballet shoe earrings off Amazon that came in a pack with a couple other pair of earrings. Well they sent me the wrong pack and there weren't any ballet shoes in it. So I made a little design on the Silhouette, used an old vase I had in storage, and had Andrew pick up some roses on his way home from the office that afternoon. It was totally last minute (Andrew got home right before we needed to leave, so I put the roses in right before we left and gave them to her) but she really liked it. Plus she got three more of the same roses from Andrew's parents later that night to add to the vase.
We had our friend Sarah come over to watch the twins. We were so thankful she was able to watch them and we didn't have to try to keep them quiet for the 3 hours we were there. Lincoln was pretty good at the beginning but then kept asking if it was over yet. Andrew's parents came along with my parents and Molly. My parents and Molly had just gotten back into town for Kansas City where they went to Briley recital that afternoon. Ellie did an awesome job. She had three dances-a jazz, tap, and ballet. She loves dancing, especially on the stage. I love watching her dance too. But I was thankful that her dances were done not too long after intermission. I think the recital went on for over 4 hours! Sunday was my parents 40th Wedding Anniversary. As I mentioned before, we are planning a dinner for them while we are on vacation. I made up an invitation to give them inviting them to that dinner so that they didn't think we totally forgot about it. Their marriage definitely deserves celebration and we plan on having a good one in July. They are such good role models and inspirations to all of us and are so dedicated to each other and their family! I did feel like we should do something on their actual anniversary though. My mom kept saying she would just like to barbecue and let the kids swim. Well the high was just 60 for the day, so she opted for AJ's. They got a Raspberry Royale to share to celebrate.
And they got to continue the celebration with our kids who requested a sleep over :-). I mean, what else would you rather do on your 40th anniversary than have three of your grandkids sleep over. It was funny when I picked them up this morning. You can definitely tell that Lincoln is our responsible one. He was the only one that took a bath the night before and was all dressed and ready. Ellie was still in her pjs and Jackson just stayed in the clothes he had on the day before and didn't even put his pjs on. So I got them home, the two oldest showered and got ready for the day, then they had to clean up the basement for their chore of the day. We were going to really get going on our schedule, but we just didn't have time without the morning hours. Because after cleaning the basement and eating lunch (we got to eat outside-so nice) we had to take Jackson to baseball camp. Andrew and I just decided this morning to sign him up. We think it will be a good way for him to get a better understanding of the game and learn more of the skills he will need for this next level he is playing in. It is just for a couple of hours for four days. Plus the weather is only going to be in the mid/lower 70s this week, so maybe not hot enough for swimming. He wasn't too excited about it but I hope he ends up liking it.
