Last week, Jackson had 1st grade pajama math night at his school. It was only for first graders and their parents and the kids got to wear their pjs. We went around to a few different rooms and played some math games and at the end of it we all met in the cafeteria for the teachers to announce the winners of their competition. Each classroom had a sports bottle filled with candy and the kids could guess how many pieces were in the bottle. Well Jackson guessed the closest in his class and won the bottle. He was so excited and it was fun to see him and his friends get excited together. Then the next night we had a funny happening. I ordered pizza because it was small group night. I ordered it online and had it set to be delivered at 5 and then headed downstairs with the twins to finish up some sewing on some table runners I was making for Jackson's birthday party. I kept an eye on the clock and around 4:50, I heard Lincoln running around upstairs, yelling at me. I ran up the stairs thinking the pizza guy was at the door but was met at the top by Lincoln holding the pizza box vertical and I looked out the window to see the pizza guy driving off. So Lincoln answered the door, the guy actually gave him the pizza and left :-) I had already paid online along with a tip, so I guess he didn't care too much.
On to Thursday and Jackson's birthday party with his friends. He wanted a Beyblade party this year and I wasn't too excited about it. There wasn't much out there as far as inspiration for the party and then I spent hours upon hours upon hours (Andrew was a little frustrated with my time management) trying to figure out my new Silhouette cutting machine but I think I got it all figured out and he had a decent party. Surprisingly, Jackson cares about the decorations so I knew I had to do something. And Lissy helped me out with some of the decorations too. The party went pretty smoothly. We had it after school and Andrew was able to make it home. My mom and Molly came over too and were helpful feeding the twins. We had a Beyblade tournament that Jackson actually ended winning. Then it was pinata time, presents and cake (or cookie cake since Jackson isn't a fan of actual cake). We still had a little time left, so Andrew had another tournament with the winner winning $2.
The kids were out of school on Friday, so while Lincoln napped Jackson and Ellie dyed Easter eggs.
Ellie got to have a sleepover with Briley at my parents Friday night. Jackson and Lincoln headed out to the ranch Saturday morning with Andrew while I dropped the twins off at my parents and went to the church to help with a work day for a couple hours. Saturday night was Jackson's party for the family. We just grilled hamburgers and hot dogs and had yet another cookie cake.
Then it was time for clean up, feed the twins, and time for the Easter bunny to get to work. Jackson was up by 6:20 Sunday morning looking for his basket. Ellie and Lincoln rolled around a little later. It was quick morning as we decided to go to the early service. We got a couple quick pics before we left though.
Our church had an awesome turnout-around 962 people in both services combined. Hopefully they keep coming back :-). After church we headed over to my parents for brunch and the annual Easter egg hunt. Caroline found the golden egg this year and her and Jared together were the top winners. My initial take-away was $4, but then I ended up finding six more dollars. Jackson even did better than I did. Andrew didn't make it for most of the hunt because he had to work a booth after the second service at church.
These cuties didn't get to participate next year but they will be ready next year.
Sunday night, I convinced Andrew to get the telescope out that we gave the kids for Christmas. It took a little while to get together and figure out how to use. I think there is still some learning involved with it but the moon has been pretty low the past few nights so we'll try using it more later.
Lissy came over Sunday night after the kids had gone to bed and filled Jackson's room with balloons. He was very excited when he woke up on his birthday.
The balloons proved to be a bit of a problem later in the day as I decided it was time to take Lincoln's pacifier away, so it took a while for him to finally fall asleep during his nap time since he didn't have the paci and there were balloons all over his room. But things are actually going pretty well with that. I just told him they were all gone and that he got to be a big boy like Jackson. He didn't cry about it, just whined a little and he hasn't had one since. He fell yesterday and hurt his chin and I was so tempted to give him one because he cried for awhile and I was trying to feed both the babies too. But back to the birthday boy, he had the day off from school and we celebrated in the evening by taking the family to La Fuente. He had requested that they not sing to him, but we told him they already knew it was his birthday. He took it pretty well when they came out to sing and Ellie and Lincoln thought it was a lot of fun.
Jackson ended his birthday celebration by bringing cookies to school yesterday. It was a lot of celebrating, but I do love this kid. I love how he likes to play with his baby brothers and will try to teach new things to Ellie and Lincoln. I love our conversations and his enthusiasm (maybe not always about things I like :-)). I love that he still loves Grover. It may not be all the time, but I love when he enthusiastically helps me around the house or takes care of me when I don't feel well. He is such a blessing to us and my heart swells when I think of him. I can't believe he is eight and I know the next eight years will go by so quick-that makes me sad.
Yesterday I got to enjoy my ongoing Christmas gift again and had my house cleaned. It was wonderful. I get one more time next month. I feel like Lincoln talked to them most of the time and as they were walking out the door he told them thank you for cleaning his room. It was nice to not have to clean the house this morning like I usually do before small group. Instead we got to spend the morning at my parents with Amanda and her kids. My parents flew down to Dallas Monday evening and drove them back yesterday. If I didn't mention it already, Amanda is pregnant with twins again!!! So exciting, but it also makes her pretty sick. So my parents got Kaitlin feeling a little better, now they hope to have the same success with Amanda. They are doing pretty well at not having that empty nest.
