On Tuesday, Jackson got to go to our church's first after school program for younger kids. I think they had a pretty good turnout and he had a good time. Then it was time for a quick dinner and drop the kids off at my parents so Andrew and I could go to a meeting for small group leaders. Thursday was another full afternoon with Jackson and Ellie heading off to Little-K and then we had a half hour in between that and soccer practice for both of them. So we got some McDonald's and ate in the car. We did Jackson's homework when he got home from school but I forgot to go over his spelling words with him, so we did a little spelling test in the car too and he aced it. We also use our time in the car to go over our verse for the year. We try to do it about every day on the way to school and they both have it memorized now, "Let us think about each other and help each other to show love and do good things." We try to discuss what it means and how can enact it in our everyday lives. Hopefully it will have positive impact on them.Jackson had a fun night on Friday and got to camp out at Zach's house for his birthday. I think there were around 8 boys and they had a great time. After I dropped Jackson off, my parents and I headed to Andrew's office to work on an early birthday gift for him. Andrew was out working at the ranch and so we went to work putting up blinds in his office. He has been wanting them since he built the office but just never got around to it. So as part of my parents gift, they help me put them up. And of course, Andrew didn't make it to the office until Sunday morning. I think this has been the first Saturday in quite a while that he didn't go to the office and I'm glad none of us let it slip. I got a text Sunday morning saying thanks. He thought it was great and he loves them.The next morning we were up and at them to get ready for our first soccer games of the season. Jackson played first at 9. I missed half of his game because Ellie had team pictures. But what I did see was awesome. He did a great job and really went after it and made a few goals. Even after a night of little sleep.

Ellie did an awesome job too. She just kept running and getting in there to kick the ball. She was pretty close to making a goal a couple of times but it hit off the edge of the goal. She was pretty happy about being close though. And she is the only girl on her team but she doesn't really seem to notice.

Andrew headed back out to the ranch Saturday afternoon and we headed over to my parents to see Kaitlin, Zane and Owen. Then on Sunday Andrew headed to the office in the morning. I did the elliptical machine while I watched some of the 9-11 tributes. Jackson came down while it was on and we started talking about what had happened that day. I had never really talked to him about it before and he still doesn't totally understand. In trying to explain what the twin towers were, I talked about how they had a bunch of offices in the buildings. Like Andrew could have had an office there and Jackson replied, "I'm really glad his office wasn't there that day." So he understands it somewhat. I told him about what Andrew and I were doing. We had just gotten back from our honeymoon that Sunday and I took Monday off from work. He had already left for class and I was finishing getting ready for for my first day back to work on Tuesday when I saw it on the news. I had to leave to go to Kansas City for a couple of days and I was kind of scared of what was going to happen and didn't want to leave Andrew. I had a lunch with a doctor's office that afternoon and all we did was watch the tv. I don't think I had a conversation with a doctor about any of my drugs for the next several weeks. It seemed so insignificant at that point. It was also kind of eerie traveling I-70 between Columbia and Kansas City for awhile after that because I would occasionally see a stealth bomber flying over. I actually kept a People magazine from that week that is with some of our wedding stuff that I will eventually share with the kids. Later that morning we went to church and then headed home for a great lunch of pb&j. Andrew was in charge of the peanut butter and I put the jelly on. The kids love it when Andrew does the sandwiches because he puts on a thicker layer than I do because I don't like cleaning up the mess. Well I think the extra peanut butter helped Jackson's loose tooth and he lost it after lunch. He was so excited because this is the first tooth he has lost and all his friends have already lost several. He was also excited that the tooth fairy remembered to visit him last night.
Then we had to head to a K-Life board meeting and got to my parents in time to enjoy Lissy's birthday dinner-turkey and noodles. It was sooo delicious. I have been craving it for a long time. I even stopped by this afternoon to have some leftovers for lunch. Yes I am that desperate. Oh and I have to congratulate Molly on being our family's newest Alpha. She had Yell In today and joined Alpha Sigma Alpha, the same sorority Sara, Autumn, Caroline and I were all members of. I should find some of my old pictures and see how they compare to today :-)
