Monday morning the kids were back at school for a short
week. Lincoln helped me drop off K-Life snacks on our way to school and then I
helped in his classroom that morning. When I was done I picked up some donuts
to use as teacher valentines. I also used some other donuts as a Valentine
surprise for the kids.
The twins got out the laser guns and had a little battle.
Andrew went to work most of the day, but decided to call it
quits and pick up the kids from school, so he still wasn’t feeling the best. And
he decided to stay home with the younger ones while I took Ellie and Jackson to
their games in Moberly. My mom ended up coming with us since my dad ended up
having meetings that night. Ellie played at 5 and Jackson played at 6. Ellie’s
team had a close one that they won and she got in for a while. She just has
such a determined look on her face when she is out there. The boys team were
outmatched and it wasn’t pretty. The other team didn’t mind running the score
up too. Jackson still hustled though.
We decided to try out an Italian restaurant in Moberly that
had opened up recently and they were opening one in Kirksville soon too. They
actually ended up opening the one in Kirksville the next day. It was pretty
good except we weren’t too excited about the chicken that came with our pasta
dishes. Tuesday was Valentine’s Day and the day was full of parties. Ellie started
out the morning doing a hair style she found online for Valentine’s Day. I just
helped her place the braids at the top and she did the rest.
The twins’ party was in the morning, then we joined Lincoln
for his at 1 and Ellie’s at 2. The kids were happy with their donut surprises
in their lunch boxes (it was hard to get them in there without them seeing
since they make their own lunches) and then they had little presents in their
Valentine mail boxes when they got home-photo pillowcases and a Reese’s heart.
That evening we went to my parents for dinner and enjoyed
the night off from basketball. That night, Ellie came down around midnight
complaining of her stomach really hurting. She ended up sleeping in our
bathroom near the toilet, although nothing ever came of it. She seemed better
the next morning although Lincoln was a bit sick. He had watery eyes, stuffy
nose and a cough. He had a coughing spell and I mentioned that he may need to
stay home from school, so then the cough became persistent and he was moaning
around. I knew he was playing it up, but I kept him home anyways. He actually
went with Andrew to the office so that I could swim laps after dropping the
kids off at school. I picked him up on my way home. I told him he wasn’t going to
lay around all day watching cartoons and playing video games, so he went out
back to play a little basketball and he also brought the recycling trash can
back up to the garage for me. The twins were so jealous and were wondering why
Lincoln got to stay home and that it was unfair. I got to work finishing
cleaning the bathrooms when we got back from the pool and I got a call around
10 that Ellie was in the nurse’s office with an upset belly. I guess her
teacher had her eat a donut since she brought some for the class and Ellie has
discovered that eating sweets early in the day sometimes upset her belly and
that is what happened her. She didn’t want to go home, but I think they were
nervous she was going to throw up and weren’t aware of her other issues. But it
was a good thing she came home because she had some GI issues the rest of the
day. The Immodium didn’t seem to be working too well and so we decided she
should stay home from the game. She was all ready to go and was so upset she
had to miss it. I hated that she couldn’t go either but I didn’t want her
having an accident out on the court or on the way to Moberly. Originally, we
were all going to go but then Andrew said he would stay home with the others
while I took Jackson, who had the early 5pm game.
This game was much closer and Jackson did a great job-great
passes, driving to the basket, steals, a couple baskets. They ended up losing
by 4 points. My parents and Molly ended up coming, so we joined them for AJ’s
on our way home. There were several other basketball families there and Leah,
her mom and Zach ended up joining us at our table since we had three extra
seats. It was delicious, but a little slow. It felt especially slow since Andrew
was waiting at home for food. Ellie felt a little better while we were gone,
but still not 100%. She slept in our bathroom again and was better once she got
moving Thursday morning. She seemed to be feeling better to me and she agreed
that she was good to go to school. Lincoln seemed good to go to even though he
still had a bit of a runny nose. I did get several texts throughout the morning
about people not being able to make it to small group, so I ended up just
canceling it even though I had stayed up the night before prepping the
questions.
There was a bit of a scare Thursday morning as there was a
Facebook notice about a Facebook post the night before about someone bringing a
gun to school. They said it didn’t appear to be a genuine threat, wasn’t necessarily
aimed toward Kirksville schools and they were taking precautions (I guess they
were searching all backpacks as they went into the middle school). I did feel a
bit of fear but didn’t want to overreact. So, I got on the bike and I prayed as
I rode. Thankfully, it ended up not being anything. When I asked Jackson about
it after school, he had no clue what I was talking about. He said they did search
their backpacks and he thought they were looking for drugs.
We weren’t home very long before packing up to head to
Moberly for the last two games of the “tournament”. Ellie played at five and
Jackson at six and we all went for the first time. Ellie’s game was close, so the
fourth graders only got to go in for a few minutes. They did end up winning and
got first place in the tournament. Jackson’s game was really close. It was back
and forth and then we were ahead when the other team made a three pointer,
which put them ahead by two. Jackson got them within one point with his free
throw, but they could never get the last basket they needed until just after
the buzzer when Joe made it.
The kids didn’t have school on Friday and we had warmer
temperatures, so they were ready to get outside. They played outside with
friends and we played some basketball. Lincoln was excited that he started getting the hang of the ripstik.
When Andrew got home, he cleaned our
bikes and got them ready to ride which was great. And he played catch with
Jackson and Ellie out back while I finished getting dinner ready. That evening
we had plans to watch a movie, but for some reason we couldn’t get our TV to
turn on.
Saturday brought wonderful mid to upper-sixties weather and
sunshine. I made a quick trip to Aldi in the morning and then we had Lincoln
and Ellie’s basketball games. It took a bit for Lincoln to get moving (I think
his cold has drained him a bit) but he did great once he did. Ellie was nervous
about her game because she knew they were playing a good team. Ellie’s team
mainly consists of girls with two boys and this team had all boys and one girl…and
most of the boys were pretty decent players. Not sure how all the happened as
the Y usually tries to get a more even number of boys and girls on a team.
Ellie didn’t let them intimidate her, though, and she got in there and hustled.
She had to guard the biggest guy out there and he didn’t score until she went
out of the game.
After the game, I started getting ready to go for a bike
ride out to the lake. Andrew originally wasn’t going to go because he was still
dragging from being sick and was trying to fine tune some stuff on his bike.
Well, he got his bike fixed riht before I was heading out, so he decided to
join me. He said he wasn’t sure if he would go all the way and he would
probably draft off of me quite a bit which was totally fine with me. I’m not
good at drafting myself. It was a pretty good ride and one of my fastest lake
rides overall. The lake was very busy-like all of Truman was out there. After
we got home, Andrew went out to the ranch for a little bit and Jackson and Gage
ended up going with him to do a little exploring. I took the others over to my
parents as we had an unexpected weekend with family coming back. We were
supposed to go to KC for Atticus’ birthday but they had to move the party to
Kirksville since they put their house on the market. Ryan had strep, so Sara
decided it would be a good time to get the kids out of the house and Kaitlin
and her family came too. The kids were excited to play together and played with
our Bop balls we brought over to get aired up, rode bikes and jumped on the
trampoline. After dinner, they got to get in the hot tub. The younger boys
ended up staying overnight and Ellie, Briley and Bella came to our house for a
sleepover.
The next morning, the girls were up at a decent time and
they went outside to play a little basketball and went for a bike ride to the
lake. Then we went to my parents’ house for Atticus’ second birthday party.
Andy and Autumn were getting offers on their house throughout the day. It was a
beautiful day and the kids played outside for most of it. I did lock the
basement door at one point, though, to make sure Lincoln didn’t go down there
and just sit and watch Minecraft videos. They played with the bopballs, on the
trampoline, hide-n-seek and just exploring through the backyard. It was a great
day for February. The bopballs were pretty entertaining when one kid would get
knocked down and couldn’t get up.
