This past week was business as usual. The kids were back to
school and Jackson had basketball after school while Ellie had math contest
practice. I used my last house cleaning that was from my birthday last year, so
Michelle came and cleaned the house. It is a luxury that I don’t want to spend
money on, but I do enjoy it. That evening, after dinner, I had Andrew help me
with a lifting program, something I have been meaning to do for a while. Then
the kids got out one of the Just Dance videos to play on the WiiU. Ellie asked
me to go against her and I think she was disappointed that I beat her two
times. Tuesday evening, Ellie and Jackson had their first ball games with Mary
Immaculate. Since Ellie is just a fourth grader, we knew she wouldn’t get much
playing time, but the game was still entertaining to watch. We had a ref with a
cane that just hung out at one end of the court and the score board went out in
between the first and second quarter, so it took a little while to get it
going. Ellie did well for the minutes she was in and even took the ball in for
a shot a couple times and once it got stuck in between the rim and the
backboard and then they had to use the cane to get it down. It was a nail biter
and Kiersten ended up swishing two free throws at the end to win the game. I
had a horrible time trying to get good settings on my camera to get pictures.
Jackson was up next and his team is pretty entertaining to
watch too. He has two pretty short boys on the team that really wanted to make
a basket. Jackson did a great job. He made a few baskets and I was proud of how
well he boxed out after free throws. It was a close game also and they ended up
winning. So a great night for the Hawks.
Wednesday ended up being a crazy day. I realized once we
were headed to school, that I forgot my swim bag and I got a text from Jackson
that he left his binder, their “lifeline” for school, at home. I was tempted to
not take it to him, but it was the only time it had happened, so I helped him
out. I ran by home and got the binder and swim bag after dropping off all the
kids and made it to the pool with just over 30 minutes to get my laps in before
they closed. I finished about a minute after 9. Then I ran by the middle school
and dropped off the binder and explained the reason why I had dark marks under
my eyes and wet hair. I can just imagine the rumors that could be started. Then
I did a bike ride when I got home, took a very quick shower and picked up the
twins. With it being Lutheran Schools Week, the school was doing a food drive,
so the twins said they were supposed to bring 10 items. I needed to do my
grocery shopping and I didn’t really have another time, so they went with me.
It was a slower trip but they did pretty good, besides asking for a lot of
stuff. Then it was back home to unload everything, get them lunch and finish lunch.
Then I made Scotcharoos to take to my parents since Sara and Caroline were
coming into town. I got everything finished just in time to load up the car and
pick the kids up from school. I was able to finish preparing for my bible study
while we waited in the pick-up line. We dropped Jackson off at basketball
practice and the rest of us went to my parents. Sara, Charlotte and Annie were
there and the Molly, Caroline and Emmie got into town a little later. Lincoln
had homework and ended up employing my mom to help him with all of it. We had
dinner over there and visited for a while. Ellie loves taking care of
Charlotte, so she got to do that for a while.
Thursday, I had my bible study in the morning. We started a
new book and everyone seems to think it will be a good one. We were supposed to
watch a video, but it was just the author pretty much saying word for word,
what she had written in the book. So we just skipped ahead to the questions.
After lunch, the twins and I headed to my parents house. I was surprised to
find out that my dad and Molly were the only ones there. I guess the others had
gone to Pella. So, we visited with Molly and my dad for a bit and then headed
back home. The twins had been playing with their Duplos earlier, so they went
back to building those. They also had been playing with them a lot at school.
That night, Ellie had dance and Jackson had a ballgame in
Brashear. Ellie really wanted to play in her game too, but when we signed on,
we knew she would miss Thursday games because of dance. Andrew ended up staying home with the youngest
three because he wanted to be sure he could get Ellie in time. Well, we didn’t
realize that they ran games as 16 minute halves with a nonstop clock except for
time outs. So the girls game was finished by 6:40 and the boys ended up
starting around 6:50. The Brashear team had over 15 boys and our team started
with just 5 and then a 6th showed up right as the game started.
Then, thankfully, one of the girls stayed and she helped them out. She did
really well. My parents, Molly, Caroline and Emmie, and Sara and her girls came
too. Jackson did well but was disappointed he didn’t score. He had some good
shots and some great moves, but they just wouldn’t go in. It was a quick game
and after Joe ended up making a 3-point buzzer beater, they lost 19-16. And we
were able to get home in time to get Ellie so Andrew didn’t have to load up the
kids and take them to get her.
Andrew took the older kids to school Friday morning and I
made the Kentucky Butter Cake again for dinner the next night, got a quick run
in and then tried to take the twins by Faith Lutheran to do a speech/hearing
clinic. Once we got downstairs and realized it would be over an hour before the
boys were tested, we snuck out after Miles had to use the bathroom. It was voluntary
and I knew they wouldn’t be very good waiting in the hallway for over an hour.
We went to my parents and got to see Sara and the girls before they left. We
spent the rest of the afternoon there and then went to pick up the other kids
from school and came home. The twins fell asleep in the car, but were all wound
up when they woke up when we got home. Jackson had small group after school and
that evening we went to my parents for pizza. Ellie was the lucky one who got
to spend the night. The boys and Andrew went to the ranch Saturday morning and
that afternoon we all met Tyler and Danielle at La Fuente for lunch. It was
great to see them again and catch up. Afterwards, I went to Wal-Mart and picked
up a few more items for dinner that night since we had more coming than I
originally thought. That night, my parents, Molly, Lissy, Caroline, Emmie and
Kaitlin and her family came to dinner. The kids had a lot of fun playing
together. They had light saber battles and also spent some time in the office
with all the paper, crayons and markers making pictures that they taped up on
our walls. Emmie got to get to know Buddy better, also. Zane and Caroline also
tried out the bike on the trainer and rode a little bit on Zwift.
The three youngest ended up going home with my parents to
have a sleepover with Owen and Lola. They were so excited when we decided they
could go last-minute. Andrew picked them up the next morning and we all went to
church I got a bike ride in afterwards and Andrew took Jackson to hitting
practice and Ellie to a dance rehearsal practice for their performance at the basketball
game the next day. I got a text from Leah after I finished my ride to see if we
wanted to go skating with them. I checked with Lincoln first and he was
hesitant, but said he would just go slower. So, I got ready quickly, ate a
quick lunch, then we picked up Ellie and headed to Leisure World. The kids
skated for about 1 ½ hours and had a fun time with a few tears here and there.
After we were done, we went to my parents’ house. Andrew got on the bike after
we left and I was surprised to see he was still riding even after we got to my
parents. He ended up riding 45 miles! While at my parents’, Jackson and Ellie
had fun playing with Emmie. Jackson also downloaded an app that is similar to
Snapchat and he had fun swapping faces with people.
We ate dinner at my parents that night and then we headed
home with some tired kiddos. Bennett actually fell asleep at my parents. Ellie
did get to stay the night though. She tried to convince Lissy to spend the
night at our house, but she wasn’t having it. So, Ellie stayed with her.
