Andrew spent most of the day Monday helping sort and load
calves for their big calf sale later in the week. It was a cold day and I can’t
tell you how many layers he had on except for it made for a lot of laundry. And
he produced even more laundry when he got home and went out on a bike ride,
again with many layers. He is getting
the cold weather riding figured out though. I didn’t have a bath ready for him when he got
home, but I did have some hot coffee.
I continued my cleaning and purging which took longer
than I expected. I was able to do the laundry room, kitchen and our bedroom to
finish up the main floor. I ended up with a few more bags of trash and thrift
store stuff and sold a few items on swap shop. It was bittersweet to get rid of
some stuff as it means the kids continue to grow and without any babies in the
family (even though Lincoln still calls the twins babies) there are some items
we don’t need anymore. I did hold onto a couple sippy cups, bibs and small
utensils for when we have little guests. But it definitely clears up space in
the cabinets. Lincoln decided to do some of his own organizing. He moved the
little table in his room over by his bed and set up his pencil box and some
paper and called it his desk.
While I spent a lot of time cleaning, the kids tried to
play some games and the twins spent a lot of time on their Kindles. I will be
reducing their time after I finally finish all of it. So yes, I am that mom
that lets their kids spend too much time on their electronic devices.
I spent some time trying to figure out travel plans for
this year. We needed to get a room for closing ceremonies at Kanakuk but first
had to figure out when they were going to have them since they are changing
things up this year. A few of my first choices for hotels were already booked
for when we would be there so I wanted to get on top of that. Then we are
thinking about doing our Disney trip that we got gift cards for from my parents
for Christmas around Halloween when the kids have some time off from school. So
I started to look into that just a little but I know so little compared to my
mom and Molly so they are going to help me with that. Andrew did agree to go, so we are keeping it
short and sweet since he is not a fan of Disney at all. I imagine this will be
our last trip. Also, Andrew and I have
been discussing another trip to Italy. We’ve talked about several different
options so we’ll have to see if and where we will end up. Andrew has talked
about going up north for a few days and trying to get a bike ride in. I don’t
think I will join him on it though and I imagine it will be tougher than I am.
Andrew said I could relax at the spa J.
My mom and Ellie learned to finger knit together and
Ellie has made a couple scarves. She hopes to make several more. She also used
part of gift card from Grandpa Mike and Karen to get another knitting kit to
make a different type of scarves and hats. She had $10 left over and decided to
donate it to our Kids’ Across America jar.
I took Ellie and Payton to gymnastics in Macon on
Tuesday. It is an hour later so Andrew should be able to get home most of the
time when I need to drive. I definitely think it will be better for Ellie. The
next level is competition, so we’ll see if she wants to head that direction a
little later.
I slept in a bit on Wednesday since I didn’t have to get ready
since I was going swimming and Ellie joined me in a bed after she already got
up and got ready. I had to wake her up a little later and she said it was the
best nap she ever had. I had a good swim and ended up just a few laps short of
the 2.4 miles I need to do for the indoor triathlon which I can finish up the
next time I go. Swimming has become a bit like running now. If I can just get
through those first couple hundred yards, then things start to get a bit
easier. I went home to start dinner and continue cleaning and purging our
bedroom and bathroom. Andrew ended up picking up the twins from school a little
early and took them to the sale barn for their big calf sale. They got back
later than when they usually go down for their naps so I let them take a bath
and play around for a bit. Andrew actually picked up the kids from school with
plans to go on a bike ride when he got back but he ended up just going back to
the office until dinner time.
We actually had a little bit warmer weather on Thursday,
so the kids got outside to play. Buddy
joined them for a little bit but the Vincents’ little dog was out there and
they were going after each other so I had to bring Buddy in and let him play
inside.
Ellie and Lincoln got to find out their basketball teams that
night. Jackson was supposed to have practice at the Y that night but they got
booted because of the Meet the Coach night. So Lincoln and I picked up Ellie
from dance and headed over to the Y. We are kind of familiar with each of their
coaches and they know one or two kids on their team but that is about it. Ellie
was excited to find out her friend, Lauren, is on her team and they are the
only two girls. But there wasn’t really a good night for her to practice so her
practice ended up on Thursday at 6:30 and she has dance until 7. She really
doesn’t want to miss basketball at this point so I guess we will switch back
and forth between skipping out of dance a little early and missing the first ½
hour of basketball practice every other week. We ended up hanging out at the Y
for a bit while the kids played with their friends and I visited with some of
the moms.
Friday I started clearing out storage and sold a few baby
items including our last small swing, the big high chair and a wooden potty
chair. I was able to get them sold and picked up all on Friday which was nice.
That night we met Andrew’s family for dinner at Colton’s to celebrate Tom’s
birthday. Andrew’s Uncle Buzz joined us too. Some couples from our church were
finishing up eating while we were there so we talked to them for a bit. Andrew
had done some work for one of them and she was asking him why he never sent a
bill. He told her she never would see one and she said she would pay him back
some way. We later found out that she paid our dinner bill J. When we got home that
evening, Ellie wanted to work on her latest Doodle Crate project which was
screen printing a bag. She did a practice run and then she printed a French
bulldog on a bag and wanted to do her name to. So I designed a stencil to cut
out on the Silhouette but I couldn’t get the Silhouette to turn on. I then
realized the power cord had some wires exposed and was shorting out. So we had
to put that project on hold for a little bit.
Andrew went out to the ranch Saturday morning and let the
kids sleep in. I put on the last part of Mockingjay
and ran 6 miles. Jackson had two ballgames in Queen City again but Ellie had a
softball camp she was attending at Truman at about the same time. Sharon had
offered to take her so we dropped Ellie off at their house and she got to hang
out there for a couple hours before camp. Then we went to Queen City for the
next four hours. Jackson’s team lost their first game and won their second
game. We got home a little before I needed to pick Ellie up at the camp. I went
a little early to watch part of it. She said she enjoyed it but didn’t say much
else. She did say she was hungry though so I think she just really wanted to
get home and get something to eat. I thought it was a good way to spend a cold
Saturday though. Andrew spent the rest of his Saturday at the office until
dinner time. The kids were watching Wreck
it Ralph so we just put some blankets down and had dinner and a movie in
the family room. Then I went grocery shopping and got everything ready to head
to Kansas City the next morning.
We woke up to a little snow the next morning which didn’t
seem like a big deal until we started driving and the roads were still partly
covered which meant a slower trip than I was hoping for. But we made it. We stopped by Sam’s in Liberty
first so I could pick up an order I had placed and then we went to Andy and
Autumn’s. We didn’t get to stay very long though since we had to get to the
show. My dad had picked up some lunch so we were able before we left. Kaitlin
and Zane and their kids showed up a little after we did. Ellie stayed behind
with the girls while all the boys and I went to the show. We went to the Marvel Universe Live show at the Sprint Center. Except
for a couple drinks and a big bag of popcorn we did avoid buying all the stuff
they try to sell the kids. The show was very cheesy and maybe a little long but
all the boys liked it, even Jackson. I think he enjoyed all the dirt bike
stunts they did. The twins complained about it being loud and wanting to leave
every now and then but said they liked it afterwards. Lincoln said it was awesome.
We left straight from the show although it did take a while to get out of the
parking garage. Ellie stayed and came home with my parents later that evening
after they watched Briley’s basketball game. When we got home the twins started
acting like superheroes so I think they actually did enjoy the show. And as I
was putting away stuff from Sam’s I caught them “lifting weights”.
