After the twins went down for a nap, I had Lincoln help
me go through some of our toys to pick out some to take to the thrift
store. Then we also had to make some
banana muffins for him to take for snack the next day. Jackson and Ellie had swim practice and then
we had dinner after they got home. Other
than that we didn’t have much else going on.
So I headed downstairs to do some more wrapping while the rest of the
family watched Christmas Vacation (we recorded the TV version hoping it would
be a little better for the kids to watch J)
and Elf. There was also some wrestling going on.
Then the next day Lincoln got
to go with his class out to Fouch’s Christmas Tree farm to help pick out a tree
for the school. He was excited about the
candy cane Mrs. Fouch gave him. It
reminded me of all of our trips out to the tree farm and the little candy canes
they would hand out. When he came home
he was singing more of his Christmas songs including his version of Silent
Night…”Silent night, virgin night…” J. After lunch we ran a few errands. We went by the YMCA and signed Ellie up for
basketball. Jackson’s grade is
supposedly going to have their own program with some of the dads coaching. Next we stopped by the thrift store to drop a
few things off, then Andrew’s office (where they were very excited to see their
dad) and then on to the bank. Bennett
was asleep by the time we got back which was about nap time. So I quickly put away their laundry while
Lincoln put away his and then the twins laid down for a nap. Wednesday was business as usual but we didn’t have small
group. Alex came over to play with
Lincoln that afternoon and I thought this view deserved a picture-Santa, a
reindeer and Batman J.
Andrew had to go to Kansas City that afternoon so I had
to put the twins down for an early nap so that I could get them up earlier to
pick up Jackson and Ellie from school.
They weren’t that happy about waking up though. I finally convinced them to head out to the
car with a promise of Cheezits and Polar Express in the car. That evening we went to my parents’ house to
celebrate my dad’s birthday. As soon as
we get to their house these days there is a fight over the iPad between all of
the boys. But we were able to get a
yummy dinner in and then sang Happy Birthday to my dad before we ate his
pudding dessert. He picked out the
pudding dessert because he thought the kids would like it-Ellie was the only
one that tried it ;-). I told him it was
like he was getting ready for the nursing home-eating his pudding for dessert
and Molly put her mouse ears on him which reminded me of the crowns they use at
the nursing home.
Andrew got back into town a little after dinner so he
stopped by, grabbed a bite to eat and took the kids home for me so I could do
some grocery shopping. Then he had to
head out early the next morning so I had to take the kids to school. I guess it is just getting me prepared for
the next few weeks after his surgery where I will be doing it anyways. The twins watched Planes: Fire & Rescue that morning while I worked on some
Christmas stuff and before you knew it, it was time to pick up Lincoln from
school. After lunch I had Lincoln help
me make some peppermint frosted brownies for our small group dinner that night. He also spent part of the afternoon playing
with Alex. They went between both houses
and I guess they had a lot of fun because they both said that it was such a fun
day. Then as Alex was leaving he yelled
downstairs to Lincoln to tell him bye and also told him he loved him J.
That evening I made some ham and turkey sliders and then
we met some of the people from our small group at Troy Mills so they could
follow us out to Matthew and Kristin’s for the small group dinner. We had a great turnout with only one person
from our group not able to make it. The
kids took over the basement and all of the toys. But Jackson and Zach spent time outside
playing with the new puppy. We had good
food and good fellowship and it was a great way to end our small group before
our Christmas break. As each of the
girls were leaving I gave them a little gift I had worked on. I got a devotional book for us all to do
together over the break and included a note to encourage us all to stay
connected and encourage each other over the break.
As we were driving home, I started getting a headache and
I’m wondering if I experienced my first migraine. I know it wasn’t as painful as what a lot of
people experience but one side of my head had a throbbing headache, I was
sensitive to light, nauseous and fatigued.
It came on pretty sudden though so I just laid down when I got home for
a bit while Andrew got the kids to bed.
I got up after a little while to pick up a little bit and set the
dishwasher to run later that night then I was out. My headache was pretty much gone when I got
up the next morning but a dull ache was still kind of there. And the immediate whining and fighting that
started as soon as the twins got up a little before seven didn’t help too
much. By lunch time I gave in and
ordered How to Train Your Dragon 2
for them and Lincoln on our BluRay. But
they weren’t very good about sitting down to watch it so I caved even more and
let them have their pacis and then there was finally some quiet in the
house. So I ate some lunch, paid some
bills, finished the laundry for the day, picked up the house a bit and started
my packing/grocery lists for preparing for Andrew’s surgery next week. That night, Andrew and Ellie went out for a
Daddy-daughter dinner at La Fuente. I
had already planned on making crockpot chicken fajitas so we had Mexican at
home too. The kids watched the movie
again and played until they got home and then I headed downstairs to make a
major dent in my wrapping. I didn’t
finish up until after 10:30 and then picked up the house a bit before I went to
bed. I didn’t get everything done but I
am definitely closer to finishing.
Saturday morning the older three went out to the ranch
with Andrew. He said they didn’t want to
help him out though because Granny had a better idea of running to town and
picking out Wal-Mart gifts for themselves at Wal-Mart. So Andrew tried to get things in order before
surgery on his own. I finished up some
Silhouette projects for some of my last presents to wrap. I also got a longer run in (at least a longer
run for me) since I imagine my chances to workout daily will dwindle for a
while after Andrew’s surgery. I did six
miles but I did have to get off several times to break up some fights, wipe a
poopy bottom and I even got a call from Jackson saying they were out front
(Andrew’s parents ended up bringing them in) but the door was locked. But I eventually got it done. Mary said Jackson did a gret job helping her
out while they were shopping. They made
a stop at McDonalds and she had Jackson order for them so he took care of all
of it. Andrew got home a little after
lunch time, cleaned up and then headed to the office. After I got the twins down for a nap (which I
do have to mention that our potty training has definitely taken a turn for the
better J)
I turned on Earth to Echo for the
kids. Jackson has really wanted to see
it and I had accumulated a decent amount of Amazon video credit from orders so
we got it for free. Ty and Alex were
over playing so they all sat down to watch it.
Then that evening we headed out to Matthew and Kristin’s
again for Ainsley’s first birthday party.
The kids love going out there which is great since we have been out
there so much lately J.
Plus they have Pizza Hut pizza which my kids love. And the twins are always excited about
cupcakes and these had bright teal icing.
Then there are also the new toys they get to break in J. Jackson actually put one of the toys together
for Ainsley. But in totally taking after
his dad, he didn’t use the instructions. It seemed to be put together correctly
but there was one screw left over.
After we got home that night, I went back down to the
basement to finish up my wrapping. And I
was able to get it all done except for the Christmas pjs but I was still
waiting on some slippers to come in.
Then there were a few gifts I wanted the kids to wrap. But everything else is ready to go which I
will appreciate over the next few weeks.
As I was getting ready Sunday morning I noticed the pretty pink sunrise which was unexpected because it was kind of a dreary day.
The rest of the day was spent trying to get everything else caught up for both
Andrew and I. He spent a lot of time at the office before and after church. I got some grocery shopping in, tied up some
loose ends around the house, helped the kids finish wrapping their gifts,
started getting stuff ready for us to leave and for the kids to stay at my
parents, made some cookies and got dinner going. When Andrew came home he brought my
birthday/Christmas gifts with him. I was so proud of him that he got that all
done before his surgery J.
So he headed down to the basement just as I was finishing up wrapping with the
kids and had them help him.
Ellie helped me with the cookies and then Lincoln helped
me with dinner. And in the middle of all
of this I was working on getting everything ready to surprise the kids with our
own “Polar Express” adventure that night.
I mixed up the hot chocolate and put it in our fridge downstairs, put
the tickets in the cabinet upstairs so I could set the on their pillows later
and bagged up some cookies and put them in the car for each of the kids. I also saw a Christmas light checklist online
so I thought that would be fun for the kids this year and put them on their
seats too.
So later that night, I started the hot chocolate in the
Cocomotion down in the basement then put it in the disposable coffee cups with lids
and straws (really didn’t want any messes in the car) and snuck them out to the
car. Then Andrew sent the kids to bed
and I ran out to the car to turn it on and start the Polar Express music and
get the camera ready. Meanwhile the kids
found their tickets so Andrew went upstairs and started yelling, “All aboard!
Tickets, please.” He took a little video
of it and it was so cute. They were all
excited, especially the twins. They were
very excited to have their own tickets and didn’t let go of them the whole
night. So Andrew punched their tickets
before they got into the car and we were on our way. Ellie and Lincoln really enjoyed the
checklist and were able to find most of them.
We didn’t have a lot of lights to look at but they still enjoyed
it. We went to the one that is set to
music and then also headed up to Greentop to find another one I had read
about. It was kind of a bust though as I
don’t think we found it. If we did, then
it wasn’t much. There were some fun
displays on the way though. Then it was
time to head home and go to bed. Later
that night Andrew got a text from his secretary saying that she was at the
hospital in Macon with a small brain bleed and that she was being transferred
to Columbia. Andrew texted back that he
would pray for her and to not worry about work.
The twins still had their tickets the next morning. Actually Miles couldn’t find his right away
and he wouldn’t come down until Jackson found it for him. And then they had a fun time watching the fire
truck pick up Gracie for school since she was Student of the Month.
Lincoln wasn’t in the best mood when he got up. He really wanted to go to back to bed and was
just really whiney. I thought about
keeping him home but he had his Christmas program that night and I hated for
him to miss it. So I sent him to school and then got the call around 9 that he
wasn’t feeling well and had a slight fever.
So I loaded up the twins to pick him up.
I gave him some Tylenol and set him up in the basement with some movies
and his blanket. Thankfully he didn’t
have any GI stuff. And I usually don’t
get too paranoid about being sick but I did ask my dad to call in some Tamiflu
for us just in case. And of course we have not had our flu shots yet. I just knew that Andrew didn’t need to get
sick or they would have to cancel his surgery and I didn’t want to get sick
because I needed to take care of Andrew.
The rest of the morning/afternoon seemed to go by in a
blur as I was trying to rearrange plans and make new ones. Annie was going to take and pick up Lincoln
from school the next day so I had to cancel that. Andrew talked to his
secretary and she was doing better and was hoping to get out of the hospital that
day which was great. I guess she fell
and hit her head and that is how she ended up with the bleed. She still probably wouldn’t be able to come
in the rest of the week though. So I
worked on finding someone to sit in Andrew’s office and take calls since he and
his secretary were both going to be out for the week. Molly came through and found two of her
friends that would do it. It was finals
week so it worked that they could study and make money at the same time J. Then I got busy packing and setting out
clothes for the next several days. I
wanted everything ready to go for Thursday too since we would probably be
getting in later on Wednesday. So now I
am going to try to get this posted, get back to work and pray that things go
smoothly from here.
