The next we were all up and going early because Andrew
had his doctor’s appointment in St. Louis.
So we all went to take the kids to school and then we dropped the twins
off with my mom. Andrew actually had a
quick hearing in Edina so we stopped there for a bit. I ran to Casey’s and got us each a donut
while he was in court then we were on our way to St. Louis. We met Sara, Brady and Charlotte for
lunch. It was great to see all of them
and get to talk with Sara. Then we were
on our way to the clinic. We actually
got there early. His appointment was at
2:30 and we actually got in by 2:45 plus he didn’t have to get new x-rays. But then it took a little while for the
doctor to finally see us and it was decided that Andrew would have FAI
(femoroacetabular impingement) surgery in December. Next up we met with the lady that schedules
everything. We had already tentatively
scheduled the surgery at the last appointment but we thought we would see if we
could possibly move it up. She looked at
us like we were crazy. I think the
surgeon is a very good one (which is why we went with him) which means he is
very busy. Andrew is on a waiting list
though. They went ahead and fitted him
with crutches that are currently hidden away in our basement so that the kids
don’t play with them. They were so
excited when they saw them in the car later that night-I knew we would have to
hide them somewhere. Then she gave us
the packet of information for preparation and what to expect. I think I should prepare for Christmas like I
did when I was pregnant with the twins.
I think I will be pretty busy after he has the surgery that I won’t have
much time to do too much with Christmas.
And I just hope he isn’t in too much pain. He will be on crutches for about a week and
then has very limited activity. He could
possibly go back to work after a week or two but won’t be able to drive for a
little bit. And he needs to start
physical therapy pretty much the day after he gets back from surgery. So I get to be his chauffer J. Then they recommend we get a raised toilet
seat with handle bars and something called a “hip kit” that has different
instruments in it that help him with getting dressed and picking up stuff because
he can’t bend over for several weeks.
Should be fun. I really do hope
it relieves the pain he has been having.
His right hip has the same malformation but doesn’t seem to be giving
him any problems right now which he is grateful for. By the time we got out of the appointment it
was about 4:40 so we got stuck right in the middle of rush hour traffic and
didn’t get home until about 8:15.
Thankfully my dad was able to take Ellie to gymnastics and then we picked
her up on our way home. She had her new
outfit on for her gymnastics routine.
She looked so cute in it and I think it will be great for her routine,
plus she really liked it too. But then
we had to get home and get everyone to bed. And I forgot to mention that Ellie got the "Caught Being Good Award" at her school for the second grade girls this week-way to go Ellie!
We ended up not having small group on Wednesday because it
was Truman’s fall break so we didn’t have our sitters. I still got up and did my cleaning but then
thought we would use the day to start potty training. I had bought underwear at the store a few
days before so I put the boys in them when they got up. They reacted differently than my other kids
did-they hated them. They cried and
pulled and tugged. Finally I was able to
distract them by giving them candy corn-our “payment” for our potty training
experience. Mile was all over it at
first and got some candy while Bennett wasn’t interested. I had them go and then we went downstairs so
I could run on the treadmill. I decided
to try to do a little longer run than my usual three miles-not the best
idea. I still did five miles but there
were a few interruptions like changing two wet pair of underpants and a third
one full of poop L. I still wanted to finish though. We had one more accident that morning and
then were okay until nap time. I put
them in diapers for their nap and they were really grumpy when they got up and
didn’t want to put their underwear back on.
So I decided we would just call it a day and let them take a break from
it.
It was a nicer day outside so Lincoln spent all afternoon
outside playing with his friends. Ellie
and Gracie kept asking what they could do.
I asked what they did at Gracie’s house and they said they ate
candy. I told them they could go for a
bike ride, play basketball, soccer, etc.
They kept saying no but eventually landed on looking at an American Girl
doll magazine. I had worked on designing
stuff for Ellie’s birthday in the car to and from St. Louis so I finished that
up and started printing and cutting it out.
I loved the new set up for my printer and Silhouette in the new office. Andrew just smiled when I told him this-he
doesn’t always understand my strong pull to organization and everything having
its place.
We just did leftovers for dinner that night, or at least
Andrew and I did. The kids had other
random stuff including popcorn-Jackson and Ellie’s top choice. Then I started working on assembling stuff
for Ellie’s birthday and then ran to the grocery stores. I knew I didn’t want to take the twins the
next day in the middle of our potty training.
They were in bed when I got home but Ellie had forgot she needed to
print off some pictures for a book she was making. So I quickly put away the groceries and we
started looking for pictures of beagles to print off from a list she had made. Then I worked on assembling Ellie’s cupcake
toppers while watching the Cardinals game-bummer. Well the game was bummer, but I did like the
way everything was coming together for her birthday. I have pretty much everything ready to go
decoration wise and most of the stuff I need for her friend birthday. It will be nice to not have to worry about
that too while I work on making sure we have everything ready to go for the
Thanksgiving meal we will be serving for Ellie’s birthday and getting stuff
ready for Christmas.
Thursday morning it was back to the potty training. Surprisingly Bennett was all over it while
Miles really struggled. But once Miles
figured it out again, he was good to go.
Well pretty much. We still had a
couple barely wet pants plus neither of them wanted to poop in the toilet. I hope we can get over that soon. While they napped I made some curtains for
the new office. They were pretty much
just unlined panels because I didn’t want to block out any light and I wanted
to just hang them from rings. I also
just used hemming tape because I thought I may have a better chance with them
being straight with that than if I tried to actually sew them. It took all of nap time though and a little
longer. I had a little fabric left over
that I wanted to use to make some covers for the handles of the baskets in the
cubbies. That didn’t exactly work so I
just made ties to go on them later that night.
Then the room was pretty much done.
I have some new curtain rings coming in and that it is. I love it.
I say that a lot J.
After the twins
got up, I took them outside to play while Jackson and Ellie were at swim
practice. Dylan and Luke, the twins from
across the street wanted to play and Miles and Bennett weren’t quite sure about
them touching their stuff. The other
twins are probably about 15 months so it was fun to see them all interact. Then we headed in to make pancakes for
dinner. I usually do 2 batches but we
blew through those so I am for sure going to have to make more next time. After we got everything cleaned up I took
Jackson to Dollar General to get some food for his school’s canned food
drive. Thankfully they had the Cardinal’s
game on so we got to hear a great inning with the two home runs. Sadly the game didn’t end as well and the
Cardinals were out of the race.
We were up and at it with the potty training again the
next morning. It sure takes a lot of time. The twins were all over going to the potty
that day. They really wanted their candy
corn so they would just go squeeze out a couple drops and ask for some
more. They also like to play with the
soap, the water and the toilet paper. I
tried to put stuff up higher but at one point the roll of toilet paper ended up
in the toilet. So in the middle of fielding
trips to the bathroom, I worked on stuff for having Andrew’s family in for
dinner. I made an apple cake and started
dinner in the crockpot. Lincoln actually
did a good job of helping with the potty duties. He would ask them if they needed to go, help
them and get them some candy. Sadly, I
have had to start taking pieces of candy corn from our Halloween decorations…the
candy that has been there for three years.
Yes, I admit I do it. But I haven’t
been able to get to the store to get more.
I have some other kids around here that really like candy corn too so it
has disappeared rather quickly. Alex
also came over to play. Sometimes he
brings their dog, Molly, and it not quite sure what to do with her. I guess his mom told him not to bring her
inside so this is how I found her…
Andrew and the three older kids headed out to the ranch
early Saturday morning. I was anxious to
see how my sign turned out so I got to work on it. Sadly the paint of the words was peeling up
in some places as I was removing the vinyl.
But then I decided it gave it the distressed look I was going for
anyways. But I still had to clean it up
a bit. Then I wanted to put a sealer on
it and when I started brushing that on, it made the red paint smear a bit. Thankfully I didn’t do too much damage and
was able to wipe it off. And I actually
had some spray paint lacquer that worked great.
While the twins ate breakfast and watched Mickey Mouse I cleaned up
around the house and started the never ending chore of washing sheets. It really takes all day to get it all
through. I guess this is the one time I
wish I had an extra washer and dryer because my other laundry piles up. I was also able to get a run in on the
treadmill without having to get off and clean up a pee mess. They actually went all morning/afternoon
until nap time with only one very small accident.
Andrew and the kids had a fun time out at the ranch. They did some work and then got to have fun
doing some practice shooting and riding the horses. They were out there until around 1 or so and
then came in in time for Andrew to help our friend Andy put in an outlet over
the fireplace so I have a place to plug in my Christmas lights. They decided to
access it through the basement but it did take a little while to find the open
spot they were looking for. But once
they did it was pretty easy and I am very excited to have the outlet now.
That night I decided to take the older three to see Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No
Good, Very Bad Day. Jackson and
Ellie both really liked it. Lincoln was
so, so. He was ready to leave part way
through the movie because I think he was pretty tired. But he did laugh at some parts. And when we got home the twins were where we
left them, playing with their trains sprawled out around our family room
floor.
So today we have been to church and then Andrew went on a
bike ride before heading to church. It
is a beautiful day and the kids are outside enjoying it. I love that we are still able to enjoy days
like this and I think we have a pretty good week ahead of us.
