Then it was time for gymnastics. They had to change the set up a bit at the place where Ellie takes gymnastics so I get to watch her for now. I still am amazed by Ellie's flexibility. She is so close to being able to do her splits. And we already have her outfit for the recital. We were able to pick one out early and the one we picked out was actually one that a group had used the year before. Luckily one of the mom's was willing to sell us their outfit for only $10 compared to the $40 I would have had to pay.
Lincoln had a fun day on Wednesday and got to go with Andrew to a closing in Macon and hang out at the office a bit. He was excited because he got some bubble gum. I worked on some tags for the big first birthday party coming up and a Halloween banner for Leah. We also watched the Cardinals game which they lost. But then they were able to come back to St. Louis to finish it out. The game finished up just in time to start small group.
Thursday was shopping day. Miles and Bennett love to point out all different things to me. They are always saying, "Mommy, look. Look Mommy." When Lincoln got home at lunch time, he got to go with Alex out to his grandparents' house to roast some hot dogs and s'mores. They also ride a little on the four wheeler. And they even played some more when they got home. While he was gone and the twins were napping I cleaned all the windows in the house. Jackson and Ellie had Little K after school. So we picked them up from there and headed to my parents for dinner. They were excited to make a leave pile and the twins loved playing in them as much as the others. They really enjoyed picking up handfuls and throwing them.
Friday morning I tried to help decorate for Faith Lutheran's Fall Festival. I put together some centerpieces for to use on the dining tables and setting them up was about all I got done. There was a pedal go-kart there that was part of the auction and Lincoln was so excited to get to ride on it a bit. But then Miles and Bennett really wanted to ride it too but they fought with each other over it and screamed loudly. So after I got my stuff done, we headed out of there. I felt bad I couldn't help more than that, but the twins just weren't cooperating this time. I had even planned to take a quick trip to Hy-Vee for just a few things but decided I would rather do it later with the older kids. I decided that it would probably be best if Andrew stayed at home with the twins while I took the older ones to the Fall Festival. I knew that go-kart would be sitting out and I didn't want to go through that again. It just wasn't their day. They even included Lincoln in their wrestling.
I was surprised by them at dinner that night though. We had basil red pepper pasta and they loved it. They each had several helpings of it. After dinner, we quickly cleaned up and then I took the older three to the Fall Festival. We stopped by Hy-Vee real quick on our way and it was definitely easier with those three than taking the twins. The Fall Festival was packed. When we got there they were doing a live auction and had shut down the games so the kids were kind of disappointed. So we just looked around a little bit and then they finally decided to go ahead and start up some of the games again as they had a lot of antsy kids. The auction went really well though. They had one class quilt go for $4000! We didn't stick around too long because we wanted to get home in time for the Cardinals game. And what a fun game it was. The kids really got into and had their own versions of rally rags. Jackson and Ellie also brought down their cardinal and squirrel they got last year from the stadium that play "Take Me Out to the Ballgame". They didn't last the whole game (Jackson and Ellie fell asleep downstairs while trying to finish watching it) but I did. So much fun!
Andrew and I had our first 5K together Saturday morning. It was the Bulldog 5K for Truman Homecoming. It was a tad bit intimidating for just my second 5K because we were told it is the hardest one in the area-lots of hills. It was also pretty cold. I think it was around 33 degrees but the wind chill was 26. Mary came in to watch the kids for us so we could go. We tried to keep our outer layers on as long as we could and just threw them in the car as we headed to the starting line. I was kind of disappointed because I didn't actually start my timer on my phone when I thought I had. So I didn't get my mileage and pace updates like I like to get. They had the course marked though. Andrew went ahead of me pretty early in the race. I could always see him up ahead but I knew I probably wouldn't be able to catch him. I was hoping I would be able to sprint past him in the end :-). The hardest part was probably running the hills on Shepherd with the cold wind blowing at us. But we both were pleased with our finishes in the end. Andrew got 24:32 which is awesome, especially for his first one. He placed 2nd in his age group (I do have to clarify that both of us just had around 6 people in our age groups though :-)). I got 25:12 which was 25 seconds faster than my first 5K and on a harder course. So I was happy with it. Now I want to get under 25 minutes. They just posted the results today and noticed that I got first in my age group, or at least the age group they mistakenly put me it-the 45-54 age group :-). I told them at registration that they had me in the wrong age group and the girl said I could just change it on my bib and that would be fine. I guess it didn't work though. I would have gotten 2nd in my actual age group-again not too many people that I was competing with though. I sent an email to the organizers of the race because I thought it would only be fair for the actual 1st place finisher in that older age group to get her correct medal. So I don't know if they will change things up or that Andrew or I will get our medals but that is okay. Andrew still can't find his medal from the triathlon and they would probably just end up in a box somewhere or given to one of the kids. They think medals are pretty cool.
Sunday Andrew headed out early to stack some more hay for his cows for winter. Then the kids and I got ready, picked up Molly, and headed to Ankeny to help Lola celebrate her 1st birthday. I think Owen was excited to see us and came to greet us at the car. Kaitlin had some precious decorations for the party and Lola looked so cute in her pink dress to go with her pink ruffle cake. The kids had fun playing around the house and helping open presents. We also got to enjoy some Olive Garden they ordered out. It has been quite awhile since I have had Olive Garden. We were only there a few hours but it was nice to hang out for a bit. And thankfully the kids slept for part of the way home so our trip home wasn't as bad as our trip there. Miles and Bennett aren't the best travelers.
Ellie had dance after school, then we ate a quick dinner, dropped them off at my parents, picked up Andrew at the office and headed to a K-Life meeting. And my dad dropped Jackson off at swim practice for us. He got kind of hesitant about starting up again but seemed to like the evening practice and said he was glad to be back at it. But then it was time to get home because we had a plumber coming by to look at our hot water heaters. I noticed when I was cleaning up from dinner that we didn't have any hot water. My parents were awesome and gave the kids baths at their house this evening while we were at the meeting. And the plumber came by tonight and got them working again and will be coming back tomorrow to try to figure out what exactly went wrong. I'm just thankful I will be able to have a hot shower tomorrow morning as the temperatures are getting colder. And one last picture of Miles. He has been requesting my old bear, Barney, before he goes to bed sometimes. Barney is well-loved with a missing eye and a patch on his bottom and I love that Miles loves him too :-)
