This past week was full of fun activities. I spent part of my time getting ready for the Kanakuk Movie Night which is coming up on Tuesday. I decided to make a little flyer for Kevin to hand out to parents as they were picking up their kids at K-Life last week. Then I decided to work on a popcorn bar for people to munch on during the event. And I think I have that all ready to go. I am also trying to work on centerpieces for Faith Lutheran's Fall Festival. I have my ideas and supplies, now I just need to put it all together. At least it is still a couple weeks away.
I got to join Ellie on her class field trip to Truman Farms on Tuesday. The last time I went on this trip with Jackson I was very pregnant with the twins. So this time was much more comfortable. It was supposed to be a warm, sunny day but it ended up being cool and cloudy. It didn't bother the kids though. They got to pick an ear of corn and run it through an old machine that took the kernels off. Then we were off on a tractor ride around the farm. Next was a stop to learn about horses and then make some apple cider. Lastly, they got to have a sack race. I was grateful my mom was able to watch the twins so I could spend the morning with Ellie.
Lincoln had a fun week at school. The firetruck came on Tuesday and gave the kids a great tour. They even let them spray the water. Then on Wednesday the Air Evac helicopter landed in the field right beside their school. I took Miles and Bennett over to watch and they were a little hesitant, but mesmerized. All the kids in the school came out to watch it and they all got to walk through it. Then we watched it take off. Lincoln thought it was so neat. The dad of one of the boys in his class was the pilot. Even the weekend before the helicopter came, Lincoln was talking about Matthew's dad being a pilot and having a helicopter. He decided after seeing the helicopter, that his dad needed one too. And during a discussion about the helicopter, I told Lincoln that they kept it in a building by MFA. So he took that to mean that MFA sold helicopters and that is where Andrew could get one. And a fun note, KTVO was there doing a story and Lincoln made the news that night :-).
The brick layer also came on Wednesday and started on the fireplace. He was moving along pretty well until an unexpected rain shower came in the afternoon and he had to shut it down. I was pretty excited to see it starting shaping up. And we had a little more rain on Thursday, so they didn't get back to it until Friday. He almost finished it up on Friday and had hoped to come back Saturday to do the chimney, but we had some more rain.
The Cardinals started the play-offs on Thursday and they got off to a great start. We got to watch a little bit before heading off to Luke's birthday party. We got to see the best innings though :-). The kids went to Little K after school but we skipped Ellie's soccer practice and Jackson's football practice so we could get to Luke's party on time. The kids had a great time playing and Kristin had a really cute party for Luke. Andrew also decided to bring out some fireworks we have had in our basement for a couple years. So he set those off after we finished all the party stuff and then we headed home.
The gravel road to Matthew and Kristin's was pretty muddy from the recent rain and it was caked on my car. We ran it through the wash when we got home, but there was still a lot on there. I ran to Wal-Mart that night to pick up a couple quick things and ran it through the wash again. I tried scraping some of the mud off the wheel wells with a plastic cup I had in the car. But I didn't get it all off until I handwashed the next morning before Andrew took the kids to school. It was tough stuff and was probably at least 5 inches thick under the wheel wells. I finished up cleaning out the car that morning while the kids played around in the garage. Then it was time to head outside and play. Miles and Bennett were very excited to find the little puddles to splash around in.
We ended up going to my parents in the afternoon since we didn't get the Cardinal's game and they had it through the computer hooked up to the tv. Ellie and Jackson came home from school with some fun news. Jackson was nominated for Student of the Month for his grade. He didn't get it, but was happy for his friend, Isaac, who did. And Ellie got the trophy for Caught Being Good for her grade for the week. That evening, we headed out to Jackson's last football game. I think Jackson wished he had a few more games. Miles and Bennett are glad it is over though. When I pulled their stroller up to the fence at the field, they started crying. Like they were saying, "Not again!" They were not happy. I tried to take a few pictures of Jackson while they were crying in the stroller because I knew it would be hard to do it and watch them after I took them out of the stroller. And they did try to go different directions a few times-Bennett about made it out to the field at one point. Lincoln helped me out though in trying to get him :-). After the game, we headed to La Fuente to celebrate the last game and Lissy joined us there after she finished up a shoot. I got a big hug and thank you from Jackson when I told him we were going to get Mexican after the game.

After we got home from dinner, Andrew decided it was time for hair cuts for the boys. It was already dark out, but we plugged in the lights out back and set them up out there. I put a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse video on my phone for the twins to watch while they had their hair cuts. It didn't keep them occupied the whole time done and there was some crying involved. But they were finally finished and I gave them baths while Andrew finished up with Lincoln and Jackson.
It rained off and on on Saturday morning/early afternoon, but cleared up later in the day. Ellie started the day by attending Rah Rah Rookies. It was from 9-12, so she missed her soccer game. She had fun though. They learned a few chants (still the same ones we did years ago), a cheer, a very short dance, and got to do a little tumbling and stunting. While she was gone, we headed to Jackson's soccer game at 11. It was probably the coldest game we have had so far. Which means that this soccer season has been pretty good because it was only in the 50s. It did rain a little bit during the game though, so I took the twins to the car. The car was close enough though that I could still watch the game.
Jackson's game got done in just enough time for me to get back over to the high school to pick up Ellie while Andrew took the others home. We got to watch the girls do all the things they just learned and they also get to perform before the Homecoming game this Friday and walk in the parade with the cheerleaders.
Then it was time to head home and get some stuff done around the house. Andrew went to the office to try to get a little bit of work done. And then Ellie was off again for her friend, Kate's, birthday party. She had a great time getting to dress up and sing/perform at the rock star party. While she was still at the party, Andrew and I left for a party of our own, David Rouner and Kristin Toney's wedding. Molly was awesome and watched the kids for us during the wedding and Lissy took over during the reception. I hardly ever get dressed up anymore and Lincoln was memsmerized. He told me I look beautiful and that I also looked like a "minja" because I was dressed in black. I think I am supposed to take that as a compliment. He liked all of it-my dress, my shoes, and my jewelry. And when we came home in between the wedding and reception, Ellie told me I looked gorgeous. Kids can make you feel really good sometimes :-). David and Kristin had a nice, small wedding out at Jackson's Stables. The weather turned out great with the sun shining. Their reception was at the Newman Center and more people were invited to it. The kids were invited too, but Andrew and I decided to make a date night out of it. We really love our kids, but it was nice to just enjoy ourselves for the evening. Thanks Molly and Lissy!!!
We had a cold Sunday morning. Andrew really needed to get out to the ranch, so he took the older three and headed out early in the morning while I stayed home with the twins. Well Andrew ended up with a flat tire but was, thankfully, able to make it to the barn. While Jackson helped bottle feed some calves, Matthew helped Andrew change out his tire for his spare. We are grateful he helped him out because then Andrew was able to make it home in time to go to the second service at church. We finished up a 32 week series at church called The Story where we went through the Bible from beginning to end. It was one of the best series and was great for both Andrew and I and the kids to help us become even more familiar with how everything runs together-to see God's ultimate plan from beginning to end. And on a totally unrelated note, Lincoln had to go to the bathroom before we left church. As I was wiping him, he told me that he thought my shoes were pretty. Then he proceeded to say we need to be careful because we didn't want to get poop, or pee, or water on my pretty shoes-oh boys.
Sunday afternoon, Andrew had set up a little get-together with the small group guys. They went out to the ranch to do a little shooting. I was hoping to get my grocery shopping in between church and when he had to leave, but there just wasn't enough time. I think Andrew and the guys had a good time even though it was kind of cold and rainy. They got back a little after four and I raced out of the house to get my shopping done and hopefully back to the house by to finish up stuff for dinner. While Andrew was gone, the kids resorted to picking on each other as their form of entertainment, so the chores started. They had to clean, dust and vacuum their rooms and the basement. Then they got the rolls ready so they could rise for dinner. And then they got to help me make an apple cake for dessert. We also tried to watch a bit of the Cardinals game. But when I got back from the store, they had changed it to something else and over half of the family was asleep, or trying to. The twins were starting to wake up from their naps. Lincoln and Ellie were both out and Andrew was trying to sleep on the couch. He had a rough night before and didn't sleep that well. And I guess the twins were crying quite a bit. I just heard them a little bit and also heard Andrew get up. I thought he was just giving them their pacifiers but I guess one had a really wet diaper and one had a poopy diaper, so he changed those too. And then he just had a hard time getting back to sleep.
I let the twins just hang out in their cribs while I put away groceries and laundry and finished up dinner. Then my parents and Lissy came over to catch the last of the ball game and eat dinner with us. Sadly, the Cardinals lost but we are hoping for a big win tonight. I made a crockpot beef and noodles. It was a new recipe that was just so-so but a nice, warm meal for a cold, dreary day. After my parents and Lissy left, we started winding down for the night and we went to bed kind of early.
Andrew and I were both up running this morning. I got the treadmill while he ran outside. We are running a 5k together next Saturday. I got the official time for my first 5k and it was 25:37. I ended up placing 40th overall out of 136, 9th out of the females, and 5th out of the 15 women in my age group. I felt pretty good about it. And it looks like I have a tough age group as my time would have gotten me second place in every other age group. Today we were able to run a few errands. After Andrew was done at court, he came home to change out of his suit and ended up taking Lincoln with him to order some new tires and get his truck serviced. So the twins and I ran out to do a few errands of our own. And the exciting event of the day is that they just finished up on our outdoor fireplace. I think they have a few finishing things to do after it sets, but I love it. As Andrew pointed out, it isn't totally level, but it still looks great. We can't wait to start using it. I am thinking a little cook out on Friday after the parade and Ellie's Rah Rah Rookie performance would be awesome.
