So picking up where I left off last week, after I finished my post the kids and I played a couple of intense games of Uno and another round of the Angry Birds card game. Jackson and Ellie really wanted to play it even though it is kind of confusing. There are several different kinds of cards and rules, so it can get confusing. After we finished the card games, they helped me get stuff prepped for dinner. Ellie put together the salad and Jackson helped me chop and mix up stuff for the sauce for our lemon linguine. Then Leah came by with her kids and they all got to play for a while before we ate dinner. We ended up having a late dinner and then some quick baths so that we could watch The Bible on the History channel. Jackson and Ellie were both pretty excited about watching it, so we recorded it and all sat down to watch it. It ended up being a late night before school but it was worth it. I had decided to start morning chores with the kids but ended up putting it off until Tuesday morning since they were up late the night before. Lincoln did help me around the house though. He had a sore in his mouth and was extremely whiny, so I had him help me with laundry,cleaning around the house, prepping for dinner, and making rice krispie treats. All the while, Miles and Bennett are good at being boys. They like to push around the trucks and cars now and wrestle around a bit. They even dance a little which is fun to watch. They are very proud to get up in the chairs at the table and eventually up on the table. They are seeming to interact a little more but, of course, there is a decent amount of fighting too.
Tuesday was our first day with our new chores. After some reading to figure out the best way to do morning chores before school, I decided on doing zones. This past week, Ellie's zone was the upstairs hallway and bathroom and Jackson's was the main level. They each have to pick up the space, and wipe down things. They will switch zones this week. Lincoln helps where I ask him to. They were all in the first day and promised me they would be the same the next day. There was slight hesitation the next day and even though I know there will be resistance at times I hope to stick with it. I of course chose one of the days they have other chores after school, but it wasn't too bad. When they got home from school, they had to put away their laundry and then gather trash from all the trashcans around the house. And we had Jackson start going to swim practices on Tuesdays too so he can get two practices in a week since basketball is over.
Last week was Dr. Suess week at school and they had special dress-up days. Ellie was very excited about participating. She even checked out Dr. Suess books from the library and has been learning to read them all week. Monday was crazy hat day and she wore her Minnie Mouse ears. Tuesday was favorite color day, so she was all decked out in pink. And Wednesday was Wacky Wednesday and Ellie put her outfit together all by herself.
Wednesday ended up being one of those days. It started out okay. I was up early and able to get the bathrooms cleaned. There was just a lot to get done during the day along with cleaning and prepping the house for small group that included setting up a surprise mini "shower" for a family in our group that had a new little baby and the dad ended up getting an elbow fracture which was keeping him out of work for a while. I was also in charge of snacks for small group that night and leading the discussion. Plus, Andrew wasn't going to be home until right before group. After lunch was cleaned up, I was in the twins' room putting away a box of diapers and I came out to find Bennett at the table and he had spilled Lincoln's milk all over the table and floor and was playing in it. So I had to close the twins off in a room while I cleaned up the mess. Then it was nap time. I laid the twins down and Lincoln was lucky that Leah offered to take him to the Conservation Department. He was having another bad day with a lot of whining so getting out for a bit was good for him. A little after I laid the twins down, I heard a loud thump in the twins' room. I went to check on them and Miles was out of his crib! My mom and I were just talking about how Miles wasn't quite as adventurous Bennett and then he goes and proves us wrong. So I put him back in bed and a little later I hear more noise and I come in to find Miles on top of the bookcase. He had climbed out of his bed using the toy mirror in his crib to step on and then onto the bookcase. I went to grab my camera and he fell off the bookcase! I think this is what happened the first time he got out of the crib too. Oh my.
So I took the mirror out and it didn't happen again. And it took a while, but they finally went to sleep. And then Lincoln came home. Leah said he was complaining of his stomach hurting and laying on the ground, so she decided it was time to come home. And then once he was home he just kept yelling and screaming, saying his stomach hurt. I couldn't tell if it was for real or not since it was almost like he was throwing a fit. I was trying to get him to sleep up in the bonus room (less likely for all his crying to reach the twins napping downstairs) and then he threw up. After another small vomit session, he fell asleep. I still had to finish up the snacks for that night along with laundry and some final cleaning things including the mess Lincoln just made. I also got an email around the same time from the family we were doing the shower for saying they weren't going to be able to make it because one of their daughters had a ball game. So I called Tiffany out of desparation to see if she would mind having small group at her house. I knew no one would want to come to our house with a vomiting kid. Well Tiffany was so nice to not even hesitate about having it at their brand new house. And it was convenient in case I wasn't able to get a hold of anyone, Andrew could just send them across the street. So he stayed with the twins and Lincoln while I went to small group with the snacks and to lead the discussion. It was a great chance to see Mike and Tiffany's house though, which is beautiful. Before I went to group, my dad stopped by to give Lincoln some medicine. One of the pharmacies in town does their own compounding and they have a wonderful Phergan cream that you just rub into a wrist that helps with the nausea. He threw up just one more time that night after the medicine and then I think he slept the whole time we were at group. And to top off the day, my great Uncle Bill passed away after a year-long battle with cancer.
I kept Lincoln home on Thursday and he was fine all day. I had planned on going to the store that morning, but didn't think taking Lincoln was the best idea. So I went while Andrew came home for lunch. Then I was very excited because all of the canvases came in for our bedroom. I was looking for some of the Groupon-type deals. I found a few really good ones, but then the companies had bad reviews. So after searching and some patience, I found the ones I wanted. I was able to get all five canvases for $150. That is one of the many great things about using Lissy. Since she gives you access to all of the digital files of your photos, you can use great deals like this instead of paying $150 for an 11x14 plain print. Anyways, I loved the way it turned out. I used 4 16x20s and a 20x24.
I also ended up putting up the video monitor in the twins room to keep an eye on them. It took a while finding the right position though. There ended up not being any way to get all of both cribs in the shot but I guess it will work. I had to put it in the corner behind the door as high up on the wall as it would go. It is not the most professional-looking job, but it will do. After nap time, we picked up Jackson and Ellie from K-Life, got them signed up for baseball this summer and picked up our taxes. Spring must be close if our taxes are completed and we are signing up for baseball, right? After we got that done, we ate dinner at my parents and then Andrew took Lincoln and Jackson home. Soon after, I got a text from Andrew letting me know with a lovely picture that Lincoln got sick again. All over Andrew's new tile floor. I had Lincoln sleep in my room that night and it was a long night. He didn't get sick again, he was just up a lot of the night.
Andy and Autumn and family came into town on Friday to attend Bill's visitation and funeral. So Jackson and Ellie had a sleep over at my parents Friday night. Then we all went to the funeral on Saturday and they had a lunch afterwards. As we were leaving, I had Miles and we went down the sidewalk to the car parked along the street. I was thinking about how I would get through the snow between the street and the sidewalk and decided I found a spot that didn't seem as bad. A couple steps in and I sunk to my knees. Andrew was already in the car and said at one point he saw and then he didn't. We finally made it back up and Miles thought it was funny. Surprisingly, my pants weren't wet at all. Those are some awesome pants.
Amanda and her crew got into town on Sunday and my parents had an early fried chicken dinner for all of use before Andy's family headed back home. My kids were so excited. Bennet, on the other hand, wasn't excited about sharing his Papa. He made Papa make room on his lap for two.
So now we are on to Spring Break in this lovely, dreary town. Amanda is in town for the week and I think Sara and her kids are coming sometime too. Our plan is to head to Columbia tomorrow, so we'll see how this week goes :-)
