We are now officially into Spring, but you would never guess with the weather we are having. We aren't the only ones still experiencing cold temperatures and snow though. I am just hoping a warm up will help with all the sickness going around. Thank God, Ellie was the only one who ended up sick last week. She was ready to go and back to school by Wednesday though. Andrew even made a point to get back into town earlier last Monday so he could pick up Jackson from swim practice and I didn't have to get Ellie back out. I think the Phenergan cream helped with the vomiting and she just slept a lot. Sara had to come by to scan some things on Tuesday and she brought Ellie get-well cards from Bella and Brady. Ellie loved them and immediately got her notebook out and wrote then thank you notes. Sara then offered to take Lincoln, so he got to hang out the rest of the day at my parents with Brady and Bella. I think he even got to run to Wal-Mart with Sara. Ellie was excited Lincoln was gone because that meant she got to hang out downstairs while the twins were napping. I try to keep the sick ones in their rooms with movies to hopefully keep things from spreading to the rest of the family. I was able to get a lot done in the afternoon including making another meal for a family in our small group that had a baby about a month ago and then a couple weeks ago, the dad fractured his elbow. So I got that all ready, loaded up the kids, went by the bank, picked up Jackson from swim practice, and then drove to LaPlata to drop off the meal. Then we headed to my parents to celebrate Sara's birthday a little early. My mom thought it would be okay for Ellie to come over since she hadn't vomited since the day before. She was happy to be able to play a bit but didn't really eat much.
All three kids finally went to school on Wednesday. Lincoln was sick the Thursday before Spring Break, so it was around two weeks with at least one of them being home. But at least Lincoln finally quit coming down every night in the middle of the night. I spent the morning cleaning and going through the twins' closet. I pared down the winter clothing and started hanging up clothes for warmer weather-maybe it jinxed us. The twins had a lot of fun playing with all the hangers. They also love climbing up on the breakfast table and standing on it. There have been a couple times when they both were up there that one would fall off. So now I just move all the chairs up against the wall whenever they are up. And right now Miles is trying to close Bennett in the hall closet. It is fun to see them play together and chase each other around. One of their favorite things lately is getting in the toy basket. This isn't the best picture since I just had my phone at the time and it was acting up too.
Lincoln has been into puzzles lately. My parents gave him this collection of 8 wooden Disney puzzles for Christmas and he does an awesome job of putting them together.
After he worked on his puzzles, he helped get stuff ready for small group. We decided to try doing the baby shower again for the Jacksons, so we put up a few decorations for that. That afternoon the kids had WAC after school, so Jackson was able to get a little bit of homework done and then Leah was nice enough to take them since she was taking Kate. I am very grateful she is able to do that sometimes because the twins are usually still napping at that time.
Thursday morning, the twins and I headed out to Aldi and Wal-Mart to do some grocery shopping. I saw my mom's car at Wal-Mart but didn't see her in the store for a while. We finally saw her and she said that she had been trying to catch me but I was just going too fast. I am usually just on a mission at the store-to get through it as fast as I can. Other than that, we didn't have too much going on that day. Jackson and Ellie went to Little K after school and they always have a great time there. On Friday, I got a text from Julie, Autumn's mom, who was subbing in Jackson's art class. She said he had made a Lego creation he wanted to show me. He later had to explain it and all of its moving parts.
A few days ago he got a note in his backpack from his art teacher. I think he was proud of it because he put it on the fride :-)
I worked on some stuff for Jackson's birthday party on Friday. Then the Vincents came by after school and the kids played for a while. They even played outside-it was cold. I think they are desperate to get out there. Jackson and Zach decided a sleepover sounded like a good idea. I told him I would have to talk to his dad. Ellie and Kate got in on it too. Well Andrew showed up soon after that to clean out the back of his truck so he could go pick up some mineral for his cows. Andrew was hesitant about it, but said it was okay. I decided we would talk about it after everyone left and then decide. I knew Andrew wanted them to go out to the ranch the next morning because they were moving his cows. Well, while he waited for us to decided, Jackson was a very helpful and pleasant boy. Andrew didn't want to be the bad guy, so he let them go. So after cleaning up from dinner and Andrew doing hair cuts for Jackson and Lincoln (those boys have a lot of hair), I dropped Jackson and Ellie off for their sleepover. I then worked on a few more things for Jackson's birthday including making his Lego table. I was able to get four Lego plates on sale on Amazon and Amanda picked up a $10 nightstand from Ikea for me. She suggested just using glue dots to apply the plates. So easy and worked great. While I was working on stuff, Miles and Bennett were downstairs with me and played in the playroom. There was a lot of fighting going on though. They both were trying to sit in the little rocking chair and play with the princess vanity :-). They love getting to play downstairs more now since they can get up and down the stairs by themselves.
Andrew and Lincoln headed out to the ranch early Saturday morning. He got his cows moved and Lincoln had a great time with all of his adventures. Andrew sent me a couple pictures from their day-riding on a horse with Papa and in the tractor with Andrew. Lincoln was one happy boy!
I spent the day with the twins. They were pretty crabby in the morning-not sure why though. I was thankful the kids weren't playing soccer though. I think they started last week and I would hate to be out in this weather. We learned a few years ago that spring soccer was not worth it. It is nice to have a little break before the busy summer months. Ellie is just in dance right now and Jackson just has swimming along with their "youth group" activities. This summer they will both be in baseball and Ellie will also take a cheerleading class and Jackson will continue with swimming. I think we will still just be at two kids in activities this summer because I don't think Lincoln can start tee ball until he is four. But, back to our Saturday. So instead of being out in the cold, I was inside doing load after load of laundry. I washed sheets in addition to our regular laundry. Ellie and Lincoln both sometimes sleep on top of their comforters instead of under so I wash those too. So that adds a lot of bulk to the loads. Jackson and Ellie didn't get home until later during the day. Just a little before we had to head over to the church for a little Easter play date. We met the LaBeths and the Vincents there later in the afternoon for some egg decorating, Easter egg hunt, and some pizza. Leah thought it would be fun to try out the shaving cream idea for decorating eggs that has been on Pinterest. I had thought about doing it with my kids, so I was all for it. It didn't quite turn out how I expected. The kids had more fun just playing in the shaving cream than anything. It was quite the mess but Ellie was the last one left trying to color her eggs. Miles and Bennett were just happy to be able to sit at the table for a little while. Then I distracted them with toys in the next room.
While they were working on that, Tiffany and Leah started hiding some eggs. But then the pizza showed up, so we ate some dinner first. Andrew and Lincoln showed up about this time so Lincoln was able to get in on the egg hunt. And at some point during the egg hunt and dinner, Leah started cleaning up the shaving cream mess. That was a lot of work and super nice of her to do it.
After a successful egg hunt, the kids disappeared to the Studio (the area for teens) and started rocking out. Joe had the music up loud and the microphones on so they were putting on a show. Miles and Bennett enjoyed the freedom of roaming the church too.
Andrew left and headed to the office for a couple hours while I took the kids home and did baths. The next morning the snow started. It didn't really start coming down until around 8 and I called Andrew (he was already at the office again) to see about going to church. We decided to go to the early service at 9. It was 8:15 and only one kid was ready at that point. It was a mad rush of breakfast/cleaning up, getting dressed, hair done and out the door. We were 10 minutes late though. Andrew made his way home and said he slid through a few intersections, but some of the main roads were plowed by the time we headed to church. After church, I convinced Andrew to take me to Aldi and Walmart. The kids watched a movie and he would drop me off at the door, I run in and shop as quick as I can, then he would meet at the door, I would throw the groceries in the back and we were off. We should do that more often :-). I did get him some watermelon and gelato as a thank you. He did share the gelato though-it was yummy. But by the time we got done, he felt like he needed to get back to the office so he ate a quick lunch and left. I sent the kids to the basement to play so I could get all the groceries put away and their lunches made. It is much easier to do when they aren't right at my feet. After lunch, the twins took a nap and the older three and I attacked their closets and dressers. I had them try on almost every piece of clothing to see what fit and what didn't. It took over an hour, but we got it done without too much complaining. Some stuff will get us through the rest of winter and then I feel like almost everyone but Lincoln is ready for the warmer months. He may need a couple more pairs of shorts. We have some old ones he is able to use, but not enough. The skinny guy is wearing 18 mos and 24 mos shorts. Jackson was kind of the same way and since boys shorts are so long, it works. I wonder if Miles and Bennett will pass him up. Once we got done with all of that, Ellie and Lincoln had Gracie and Ty over to play for a bit. The afternoon went by so quick with lots of little things to get done around the house. I did forget to call Mr. Baylor though and wish him a happy birthday. We will get to celebrate with him this upcoming weekend though. I was glad to hear from Lissy and that she finally made it back to apartment after venturing out in the snow to do a photo shoot and getting stuck on 40 for two hours. And my parents made it home safely from Kansas City. They flew to Orlando over the weekend to attend the induction ceremony for my Uncle Bob. He was inducted into the Lineman's Hall of Fame. My grandpa was inducted a few years back. They said the Killday family had the highest amount of total years of service of any family-500 years. The next closest family had 100 years. My grandpa started it all and inspired so many uncles, cousins, second-cousins, and I imagine even third-cousins to follow in the same industry. He was an amazing man who I wish I could have known better.
Andrew got home just about the time the twins got up from their nap and they all headed downstairs again while I made dinner. It is so nice to be able to make dinner in peace. It makes me enjoy cooking again. During dinner we did a few of our Resurrection Eggs. Each egg has a different item that tells the story of Jesus' death and resurrection. So we talked about that during dinner and then quickly did baths/cleaning so we could watch The Bible which addressed some of the same stories. We would have to pause the show and answer questions, which is great.
So now it is back to school. We don't get any time off for Easter because of snow days. But now I need to make sure I have everything in order for Easter morning. I haven't brough up our Easter tree or baskets because I assume the twins will just be all over them. I think I'll just wait until this weekend.
