So, last Monday I was still wasn’t feeling so I skipped out
on helping in the boys’ classes at school and I think their teachers were
grateful I didn’t bring my sickness. Jackson had a busy day with football
weights in the morning and track conditioning after school while Ellie has
basketball after school and a couple dance classes that night.
By Tuesday I was finally feeling better and got on the bike
on the trainer and did an easy ride before heading to a TriFAHL organizational
meeting. I had made a quick video of past TriFAHL pictures and got to add it to
the Facebook page. Hopefully it will help a bit in recruiting. That night,
Ellie had her first home game. We got there early so I could work admissions
and Ellie got some good practice time. The other team started showing up and it
was a bit intimidating to Ellie’s team as they had several pretty tall girls.
Ellie had a great game-so fun to watch. But their team struggled with the
height. One girl could just stand under the basket with her hands up and not
jump at all and would get rebound after rebound. Our girls would jump and jump
and couldn’t get as tall as her. Ellie was our top scorer for the first half
with one free throw 😊. I’m not quite sure what the score was, but
it wasn’t pretty.
After the game, Ellie wanted to stay to watch some of the
boys’ game, so Andrew took the boys home while went to the office to go through
the TriFAHL supplies we had stored there and see what all we had. Then I went
back by Mary Immaculate to pick Ellie up. Wednesday was the only day we didn’t
have something going on in the evening and I actually made dinner. Our Thursday
made up for Wednesday though. The weather was supposed to be a little warmer
that day, so I decided to try to run outside again-three miserable miles. I
really feel like I lost a decent amount of fitness while I was sick both times
and it is frustrating. After I ran, I went grocery shopping and a quick stop at
Hobby Lobby for some plates. Then I met Leah for lunch and we chatted for a
couple hours and it was nice to catch up. Jackson had track after school and
Ellie and Lincoln had Little K, so I just had the twins to pick up after
school. Then we picked up Jackson and Zach from track, Andrew got the Little K
crew, we ate some pizza and Ellie and I headed to her game while Andrew and the
boys dropped Jackson off at small group before heading to the game. Ellie had
another great game, learning all the time.
She was a rebounding, stealing fool and the adrenaline may have got the
best of her as she would fast break down for a layup and put it up too hard.
She kept trying though-even left-handed. And it was great to see some of her
teammates who had been a little hesitant, pick up the intensity. They had a
great game and ended up winning. They were very excited.
After the game, Andrew took Ellie home and I took the boys
to pick up Jackson from K-Life and then we went to the Y so they could meet
their basketball coaches. Lincoln has the dad of a boy who was in his class
last year who he is friends with and the twins ended up with a mom who was a
good ball player for Kirksville back in her day. But their practice time
doesn’t work for us, so we are looking into changing it. They would be
practicing the same time Ellie has ballgames.
Friday was the 100th Day of School, which is
always a big celebration for the kindergartners. They have a hoe-down and are
supposed to dress up in cowboy gear. The twins picked out some hats but then
Bennett changed his mind last minute from his cowboy hat to one of the Farwell
Ranch hat. They had a fun day full of 100 activities.
I had a fun day of cleaning bathrooms and such along with
trying to do a little more of my purging. That afternoon I picked up the kids with
the intention of taking them to the K-Life house with me while Andrew and I met
with Wade and Laura about some fundraising. But they were hungry and wanted to
go home, plus Ellie had swim practice that evening and it was probably a good
idea for her to get something to eat before that. So, I took them home with
directions to get their rooms cleaned up first thing and I went back to the
K-Life house. It ended up just being Wade, Laura, Andrew and I. We met for
about an hour and did come up with some ideas…we’ll see. Then Andrew went back
home while I went to the Middle School to work the concession stand for the PTA
basketball tournament from 4:30-7. Then it was off to get gas and head home and
get ready to leave early the next morning for Ellie’s first swim meet in Columbia.
I woke up around 3:45 and couldn’t go back to sleep with my
alarm set for 5am. I started getting ready and then got Ellie up. We were out
the door at around 5:40. Thankfully we left early because we had to make two
stops for Ellie…maybe a nervous stomach. The meet was at the Mizzou Rec Center
where I had the swim portion of the Trizou. We found the rest of her team in
the “crash” area set up on the basketball courts beside the pool area. The
bleachers were packed, so I just stayed in the crash area until it was time for
Ellie’s events and then would just stand up in the bleacher area to watch her
and get some video. I wasn’t really sure what to expect with the meet and wasn’t
quite prepared. We were told to bring snacks for the group, which we did. But parents
from other teams had their chairs set up and I didn’t have a choice but to just
sit on the floor. I did bring my computer though and was able to work on some
stuff which was good because it was a long day. We got there around 7:30 and
she didn’t have her first event until about 10:30. She did get to warm up some
in the diving well, which was good. Her first even was the 50 back and she was
pretty nervous, especially about her start and turns. The meet was huge and her
events had 11-13 heats. Since she didn’t have a previous time, she was in one
of the last heats. Her start was okay and her stroke looked great. She did
struggle with her turn, but then came back with a strong stroke. She did end up
getting disqualified though, because she ended up turning onto her stomach just
as she came into the wall at the finish like you would do for a turn. I was
proud of her though because the actual swim part of her race, she looked great.
We headed out after she was done and went to Shakespeare for
lunch at Ellie’s request. We didn’t have to be back until 3, so we were able to
take our time. After we ate, we went by Kohl’s and I finally got to do some
returns that I’ve had for a while. Ellie looked around for a while and decided
that most of the stuff was too expensive. She blamed me for making her that way
😊. Next up was a stop at Cyclex to return some
cycling shoes. Ellie spotted a really soft sweatshirt in there she liked that I
ended up letting her get. She was super excited. Then we went to Target for one
last return, a little looking around and then we ended up just hanging out in
the car for a bit before heading back to the meet for the afternoon session.
Ellie had two events that afternoon and it went a little quicker
than the morning. She spent most of the time hanging out with her friends on
the team. Her first event was 50 breast, which she wasn’t too excited about.
She did fine on it and maybe better than she expected. She placed 4th
in her heat and I was happy she remembered the two-hand touch at the turn and finish.
Her last event was 100 free. She finished strong and ended up 3rd in
her heat. I loved getting to watch her swim. She did an awesome job and I look
forward to watching her grow even more.
As soon as she was done, I rushed her out of there. It was a
little after 5 and while we were swimming in Columbia, Lincoln was playing
basketball back in Kirksville. Andrew had all the boys and Lincoln was playing
in the Ray Miller PTA tournament. They won their first two games, which meant
they got to play for the championships. Andrew said he did great at his first
two games with some awesome rebounding and steals. The last game was set for 7:10,
but they were running a bit behind. We got there around 7:25, I put my Warriors
sweatshirt on over my purple Aquadogs shirt and we got to the game just as they
were starting. And I was actually filming when Lincoln got his basket. They had
another great game and I’m glad I got to watch him play. They were very excited
to when first place because the team they beat (twice) beat them at the last
tournament. After the game, Andrew went home to let Buddy out and I was taking
the kids to run through the drive-thru at Dairy Queen when we got a text saying
that some of the others were going to celebrate, so we went in and joined them.
When we all got home a little after nine, we were ready for
bed…after a bit of cleaning up from the day. The next morning, Andrew went to
put out hay before we went to church. The kids spent the rest of the day
playing with friends and I did a little bit more purging/cleaning. I finally
got around to our old office in the basement where I put away all the Christmas
wrapping stuff and reorganized that room. Jackson had hitting camp at Truman.
And Ellie worked on her ball-handling skills which eventually included
dribbling two balls while rolling around on her heel skates. We had dinner a
little late and then I left after we finished to go grocery shopping while the
rest of them cleaned up everything.
