Some highlights from our week… Monday night we had soccer,
football and a K-Life meeting. Jackson and Andrew went to football first. Then
Molly came over to watch the other kids while I went to the K-Life meeting.
Ellie and Lincoln were able to catch a ride with the Vincents to soccer and
then Andrew was able to pick up Lincoln and I picked up Ellie on my way home
from the meeting. I went for a 24-mile bike ride Tuesday morning and as I was
almost at the end of Highway 3, I saw Andrew up ahead. He decided to go for a
ride and met up with me for the last part of mine. He convinced me to do a
sprint segment on our way back and I was able to do it faster than I had in the
past. Tuesday afternoon was nice, so we went to the YMCA playground after
school. The twins and I picked up Ellie and drove over and I just had Jackson
pick up Lincoln and walk over to the playground. It turned out great. We had a
few minutes of play before two large groups of kids, including the Y’s after
school program showed up. And since the weather was so nice, I let everyone play
outside as long as they could and we ate a late dinner.
Wednesday morning was cloudy, cooler and sprinkling a bit so
I cleaned bathrooms, did some quick grocery shopping and ran on the treadmill
instead of outside. I decided the weather was good for an afternoon movie, so I
sat on the couch with the twins and worked on some stuff for our women’s study
while they watched Casper. I got a call from the school nurse that Lincoln had
fallen on some wet playground equipment and busted his bottom lip. He had
actually busted his top lip the night before when Jackson kicked a ball that
hit him in the mouth and loosened one of his top teeth. So after he fell at
school, he ended up pulling that tooth out. Then after school, we ran by Aldi and picked
up pumpkins. When I was there earlier in the day, I noticed they had some good
ones and the price was really good at $2.29. So I brought the kids back and let
them each pick out one. I was excited that my new pictures came in Tuesday, so
I got them hung up and cut out some vinyl to put with them.
That night we had football and soccer again. I offered to
pick up my kids and the Vincents from soccer. Lincoln and Alex were done first,
so I read Lincoln’s library book to them while we waited in the car. Then Kate
joined and finally Ellie. It wasn’t until I was dropping the Vincents off that
we realized I had forgotten Zach. I guess I totally forgot since I didn’t have
Jackson. Ellie and I stayed up later that night going through her room. I
actually started with the twins and Lincoln’s room and purged it. Then I moved
onto Ellie’s and we were able to get her closet and dresser cleaned out.
Thursday we had our first women’s bible study. It started at
8:30 after we dropped kids off at school. I ended up not being quite as
prepared as I had hoped. Trying to get everything cleaned up from the kids
making lunches and leaving for school and get the coffee and dessert all set
out, had me rushing around pretty quickly after getting the kids dropped off.
Things went well though and we decided on what study we wanted to do for the
first part of our study. Andrew picked up the twins for me and after lunch,
while the twins played with their cars, I went back to cleaning stuff out. I worked
some more on Ellie’s and then Jackson helped me a bit with his after school. That
evening, I took Ellie to dance and the twins to soccer. Jackson stayed at home
and Lincoln came with me to soccer because he wanted to play on the playground.
He thought at one point, another tooth was ready to come out and he tried to
pull it out.
We didn’t have to pick up Ellie until 8 because she wanted
to stay like she did the last time since she had fun with it. While I finished
Ellie’s room, Andrew got to finish up Lincoln’s book before he had to take it
back to school the next day. And then he and Jackson counted the money we had
collected for KAA and we had enough to send a kid to camp. Since I had some
office work to do that night and deposits to do the next day, I had them get it
ready to deposit that money so we could make the donation. Some of the kids
also gathered some of their own money for me to deposit into their savings
accounts.
Since I was able to finish the purging process Thursday, I
did dusting and vacuumed on Friday. I usually have the kids do it but wanted to
do a pretty thorough job it. That
afternoon we were able to drop off the stuff we had collected from my purge at
the thrift store and ran by the bank before picking up the kids from school. That
evening we didn’t have anything going on, so we enjoyed dinner together and then
they all played outside until after dark. Next we decided to head to Dairy
Queen and then we watched some movies. The kids watched Shrek in the basement
while Andrew and I watched 13 Hours upstairs. I had been wanting to see it for
a while and we both agreed it was a good movie.
Saturday morning the twins had their last soccer game. It
was super windy Miles was a rock star at goalie and Bennett scored a goal. Then
I went grocery shopping afterwards. I went ahead and started getting stuff for the
K-Life leader’s dinner that I have coming up next week. Andrew worked at the
office for a bit and then he and Jackson headed to their games at 3. The first
game was at 3 but Jackson wasn’t going to play much, if at all that game, so we
waited to go until the game at 6. Matthew, Kristin and their kids came to watch
some of the game and my parents and Molly showed up too. The teams switched
things up a bit so Jackson got to try some new positions and did a great job.
He got to try out quarter back every now and then and did well. He enjoyed it
too and as Matthew said, you could see his confidence building as the game went
on. They ended up losing but it was still a great game getting the boys the
chance to try out some different positions.
We were bad Sunday morning and didn’t go to church. Andrew
took Jackson and Ellie out to check the cows while the rest of us stayed home.
I listened to our church service online and got started washing all the kids’
bedding. When I went into Lincoln and the twins' room, I found this that Jackson had done for them.
Molly came over around 10:30 and watched the kids for us so that we
could go for a longer bike ride. Lincoln had Alex’s birthday party, which was
at a cabin near Hurdland, so he road with the Vincents. But first he got to go
to church with him. Andrew and I went on a 37 mile bike ride. The longest one I
had been on before was 30 miles. I woke up in the morning with what I believe
was the beginning of a UTI, so I wasn’t feeling the best but didn’t want to
miss the opportunity to do it since Andrew had really been wanting to do the
ride together for a while. It was great to get to ride with him and he was
always looking out for me, but it was a little rough since I wasn’t feeling
that great. I ended up a bit disappointed in my performance because I had hoped
to do pretty well on it. I felt like we were riding into the wind a lot, but I
do think some of it was just how my body felt. And I made the mistake of not
eating much before we went, just some toast. Usually during my longer efforts,
like my races, I take an energy gel or two, but I didn’t bring any. Andrew
offered me a Clif bar, but I was nauseous and didn’t feel like eating it. But
we finished and were able to pick up a little speed at the end.
Andrew and Jackson were off, back to the ranch, soon after
we got home so that they could help Matthew put up some deer stands. They didn’t
get back until around 7 and Jackson said they worked hard but it was good for
him. Ellie and Faith decided to use Ellie’s craft kit and make some candles. It
was going well until Ellie spilled a bunch of salt. Then the twins decided they
would clean it up for her and dropped the dust buster, which spilled open and
emptied all the dirt everywhere. They did work to try to clean it up. Finally,
the mess was cleaned up and the candles were done.
I worked some on the invitation for Ellie’s birthday party
and the blog and then we finally made it outside. It was unusually warm for the
middle of October so we definitely needed to get out there. I do have the say
that the twins do a good job entertaining themselves inside though. They play with
their cars, trains, construction toys, and are always making food for me.
Outside they played on the swing set, rode their bikes, the
scooters and the tractor until Lincoln and his friends came around and then
they joined them on the trampoline and had a Nerf gun war before it was time to
head in for the night.
