So the week before last flew by and I am having a hard
time remembering what all we did. I had planned to do this post sometime the
beginning of this week but it just kept getting put off, so now it is a two
week post. I do know that our weeks are
starting to get busier. I did enjoy the last couple of months of just having a
few activities throughout the week. On Monday, Cheryl came into town so we went
over to my parents to have dinner with all of them. Ellie had her first softball
practice so Andrew took her to that. He decided to stay and help out which made
her a happy girl. . Then I decided to join my mom and Cheryl that night to see the
late showing of Cinderella. It was my
mom’s third time seeing the movie but she really wanted Cheryl to see it and I
had not seen it either. I really thought we would be the only ones there but
there were several others. And it was a good movie with such a good
message. It was even worth staying up
late even though I had planned to do an outside brick workout the next day. But
I didn’t plan on doing it until Andrew came home for lunch, so I went ahead and
slept a little later on Tuesday.
The weather was pretty nice when I headed out on the bike
Tuesday afternoon. I changed up my route a little and ended up going around 15
miles instead of the fourteen that I have to do for the race. But my run was
much better than last time so I was pleased with that. Our Tuesdays are busier
with Jackson having ball practice and Ellie having three dance classes along
with her tumbling class. My parents had invited us to eat at AJ’s with them
that night but our night was just too busy. Plus it was Ellie’s last class
before her competition. She had kind of
a rough practice which really rattled her. But we talked about it, prayed about
it and decided the best thing she could do was practice some more at home. So
we tried to get a few more practices in throughout the week. One of our
problems though was that it was so nice outside that we all wanted to be outside
instead of inside practicing. We did spend quite a bit of time outside all week.
Wednesday night we had small group and Ellie hung out in
the office doing homework and then she made this creation…it is our house from
the last time we were at the beach along with the yard, the pavilion, the beach
and beach umbrella, and even some rain drops. I told her she need more of those
J.
The rest of our week went pretty smoothly. Andrew ended
up taking Jackson and Ellie to the batting cages after dinner on Friday. They
also were able to get on a field and practice some fielding too. Although
Andrew never played baseball he has been trying to teach himself so that he can
teach his kids. Such a good dad J.
We all had an early Saturday morning. Andrew and the boys
all headed out to the ranch while Ellie and I headed to Kansas City around
6:30. Andrew and the boys did some work and exploring out at the ranch but the
weather wasn’t the best so they just hung out at the house too.
It was a very quiet drive for me except for when Ellie
and I would sing along to the songs. Our favorite right now is Third Day’s “Soul
on Fire”. We got to Overland Park about 20 minutes before Briley’s First
Communion was supposed to start. It is a huge church so I wasn’t quite sure
where to park, plus it was raining. We ended up at the back of the church but I
could see a bunch of girls in white dresses inside so I knew we were in the
right place. Ellie got to see Briley beforehand and she waited with Autumn
while I went up to the church to find my family. And just a couple rows ahead
of us were some of the Westhoffs. One of their grandsons was having his first
communion too. Their youngest, Beth, has three red-headed boys that all
reminded me of Lincoln.
After the first communion we ran by the hotel to change
and then headed over to Andy and Autumn’s for lunch. The kids were having fun
playing, so some of us adults headed out for some shopping. I needed to go to
Sam’s and then I made some returns at Target and Kohls. That evening was Briley’s
birthday party. And then later that
evening Sara and her family got into town. We were all thankful that Baylor
finally had a cousin to play with J.
And that night, Briley and Baylor decided to join us at the hotel. We had all
the girls in our room while my parents got Brady and Baylor. We tried to fit
all three girls on the sleeper sofa because Amanda, Lissy, Molly and I took up
the other two beds. Ellie decided to just sleep on the floor though, so we put
her on the cushions from the couch. Ellie watched some of the dance competition
on her Kindle but then we couldn’t find anything for the other girls to watch
on the TV. We tried a couple things but
decided that it would probably be best to just turn it off. It was getting late anyways.
The next morning we had breakfast and started getting
Ellie ready for her competition while the others got ready to go to Atticus’
baptism. Molly did Ellie’s makeup while I did her hair. She didn’t have as much
makeup as a lot of the other girls but she definitely had more than I was used
to. Molly did a good job with it though. Then it was time to head to the competition.
From the live streaming we could tell they were already running about 20
minutes ahead of time so we wanted to make sure to get there in enough time for
Ellie to warm up. It was at the KCI Expo Center up by the airport so it took us
about 30 minutes to get there. Luckily we stumbled upon Melody just a little
bit after we got there and she told us the mats were back stage and we could
lay them out for Ellie to warm up. Ellie was so nervous and just kept looking
around at all the girls around her while she was trying to warm up. She was so
distracted and was getting frustrated. But when Melody showed up, she was a
little better. Andrew, Jackson and Lincoln also came. The twins stayed with
Andrew’s parents which we were so grateful for. Before we knew it, it was time
for her to go. I had to stay back stage
so I could help pull the mats up when she was done but I ran around front real
quick to watch her. She totally rocked it-I was so proud of her. And after all
of her nerves, she ended up loving it. There were only two girls in her
category-Acro-Dance. The other girl was a friend from class. Most of the other
dancers in her age group were jazz routines. And I was so not prepared for all
of that. Most of them had tiny outfits on and their dances were much more
mature than they were. Andrew said it
was like an 8-year-old burlesque show. We didn’t really stick around very long
and left to get some lunch and Ellie desperately wanted to go Justice. So that
is what we did.

This past week started our month where we have some sort
of practice or the like every day but Friday. Jackson has ball practice
Tuesdays and Sundays. Ellie has ball practice on Mondays and Saturdays and
dance and tumbling on Tuesdays. Lincoln has ball practice on Thursdays and some
Saturdays. And we have small group on Wednesdays. So that keeps us pretty busy. Andrew went to
his follow-up appointment for his hip in St. Louis on Tuesday and everything is
good. They said it will probably take up to a year for it to completely heal
though. He was able to drop our bikes off at the bike shop in Columbia to get
their break-in adjustments on his way to St. Louis and then picked them up on
his way back through. He got home just in time to go to Jackson’s ball
practice. I had made dinner and just put some in a Tupperware container for him
to eat on the road. On Wednesday, Lincoln, the twins and I went to the ECLC to
get him registered for kindergarten. So he is all ready to go there and he is
pretty excited. He was also excited about his first baseball practice. We were
watching the Cardinals game before we went to practice and we had some funny
conversations about baseball. I can’t
even remember what was said now, but I guess we need to teach him about the
game J. He
has a lot of his friends on the team this year so it should be a good season
for him.
Even though I had planned on doing some quick grocery
shopping while he was practicing, he really wanted me to stay and watch him so
I did. After he was done then we went to Home Depot and bought a couple
Boxwoods to replace a couple shrubs I have out front that I don’t like. Then we
went to Aldi and WalMart followed up by Westlakes to get a couple of small
grasses. He was tired by the end of all of it but it is always nice to have a
little one-on-one time with them. Andrew mowed the yard while we were gone and
was out back playing with the kids. Then he put together the new Ziggle we got
Lincoln since his was run over when one of the neighbor kids left it behind
Andrew’s truck. He was playing with it
while we ate dinner and Andrew didn’t realize it was there when he left later
on. But Lincoln was so excited to get another one because they really have a
lot of fun with hit. So while he did that, I cleaned off the driveway and
sidewalks from all the grass and then sprayed for bugs around the house since
was have been seeing a few ants. Then Andrew got the kids bathed and to bed
while I worked on some work for the office.
Friday night was Parents’ Night Out, so we dropped the
kids off at the church and went to AJ’s with two couples from our small group.
It is always amazing how many Kirksville people you see there. It was a nice
meal (I splurged and went with steak-yum!) and nice company. But Andrew is
always anxious to pick up the kids. I think mainly because Jackson never wants
to go to Parents’ Night Out. And when we picked him up, he was sitting by
himself reading his Kindle. Andrew said he can’t make him go anymore because he
feels so bad for him.
Andrew, Jackson and Lincoln were supposed to go hunting
Saturday morning but we had thunderstorms so Andrew headed to the office
instead. For the rest of us, today has been kind of a lazy day. I have some
billing to do, my last brick workout before I start some sort of tapering for
my triathlon next Sunday, and make a cake for a friend. And the kids are just
fine with not doing much today and that is what I am going to let them do. The
rain is supposed to clear out tomorrow so the boys may go hunting, Andrew and I
are hoping to get a bike ride in so I can work on hills and then I hope to dig
up the old bushes and put our new ones in. I planted the grasses on Friday and
started working on digging up the old bushes but it is going to take some work.
