A Good Week for a New Nephew

Our Wednesday morning started out early with another fire alarm beeping. This time it was the one right outside our bedroom. I got up to check on it around 3:30 and Andrew was asleep on the couch with a bucket by him and the bathroom light on. So it looked like he wasn’t feeling well. I decided to put ear plugs in and try to ignore it since he seemed to be sleeping through it. That wasn’t working though and I went out to check about 45 minutes later and he was awake. So we got the battery changed out and the alarms went off again. This time Ellie was the only one to come down. Jackson said he heard it but knew it was the same thing as the other night. I am pretty sure that if we ever really need the continual extremely loud beeping and yelling of “fire” will wake everyone up. But for now I think I need to get some 9 volt batteries and change the rest of them.

Andrew said he did get sick just a little during the night but felt horrible. He went ahead and headed to the office early in the morning though. And I went for a swim later on. We had a wind chill advisory so I was counting on that keeping people home and I was correct. There were only three of us in the pool which I like. Andrew had a full schedule so he went ahead and spent the day at the office even though he felt horrible. We did cancel small group though because we have had just enough sickness in the house that I didn’t want to risk getting anyone else sick. Plus it seemed that others in our group were sick so we probably would have had a pretty low number. I did some office work while the twins worked on making dinner for me again along with fixing things with their tool. Miles also likes to clean every now and then. He will get out the sponge and scrub brush in the kitchen and wipe down my counters with them. I printed off some Thomas coloring pages for them to color which lasted for just a little bit. Makes me wonder how they will do at preschool. Bennett was very proud of his but Miles was frustrated that his crayons didn’t cover more space as he was coloring.

They were both begging me to take a nap that afternoon. They kept saying they were tired. I don’t know if it is just because they wanted their pacifiers or if they really were just tired. Andrew came home after dropping off the kids at home and doing physical therapy and crashed for a few hours.  We let him sleep a few hours before we went into the bedroom to do baths. And we had some exciting news on Wednesday. Autumn was overdue by a few days so they induced her and later in the afternoon she and Andy had their precious fourth baby, Atticus Robert. He was a bigger one for them too-over 8 pounds. So exciting for them. He is my parents’ 19th grandchild. Once I got the news that he was a boy, I started working on some month stickers for him using a Cardinals/baseball theme.  I finished designing them that night and cut them the next morning.

Our excitement for Thursday morning was discovering that our furnace wasn’t working. I noticed that it seemed to be a little colder in the house so I turned up the thermostat just one degree to 70. After a while I noticed that the temperature was just at 68 and I couldn’t feel any air coming through the vents. I checked on the furnace and it was actually running so I waited a little longer and it still wasn’t getting any warmer and still no air from the vents. So I turned the furnace off for a little while and it kept doing the same thing when I turned it back on. I called our HVAC guy but he was out of town in Kansas. I talked it over with Andrew when he got home and he made a phone call to a guy when he got back to the office but he just had to leave a message. He eventually did make it over and once we turned it back on it started working again. I guess maybe I just needed to turn it off and on a few more times. He did show me an indicator light on the furnace that I can use to kind of tell what may be wrong with it if it quits working again.

Lincoln spent part of the afternoon at Alex’s. I went by their house to pick Lincoln up to go run some errands and Alex’s grandma said he could stay because it was easier for her to have him there playing with Alex. So the twins and I ran by the accountants (I dropped off all of our tax stuff which is a relief to have done) and the bank. The twins were again talking about taking a nap as we were driving home. That night Jackson had a music and art program. We got to see his artwork first and then they had a little music program. They split up the fourth grade classes so just half of them were at his performance. You can definitely tell that performing is not his thing. He looked so disinterested in the whole thing but would crack a smile for us every now and then. Andrew did have a discussion with him later that it is disrespectful towards his teacher and those that came to watch him to be that way, even if it is something he doesn’t like doing. Maybe next year will be better for him and he can look forward to middle school/high school where those classes are optional J.

We finally got someone to the house Friday to clean Jackson’s carpet and I think they were pretty successful in getting the stains from the vomit out. And as Jackson stated, it smells better too. Lincoln got to go to McDonalds with Alex and his grandparents which he enjoyed. Then they came over to our house to play for a bit while Leah was at work. Lincoln and I played some more Candyland. I think he has won all but one of the games we have played. I need to get that to change somehow because he is definitely a sore loser and we need to work on that. I am trying to teach him to encourage the others he is playing against and to not get upset and pout when he draws a bad card or he is losing. Definitely a work in progress. Andrew stayed late at the office that night and got home just as we had finished up dinner, clean up and baths. I headed down to the basement to fix some ceiling tiles that had water damage from our dishwasher leaking a couple years ago. I thought I would just pull them out, trace on some new tiles (we had extra) and cut out new ones to put up. I had a heck of a time trying to get them out so I found another option online of just painting them with some Kilz spraypaint. I was a little leery of doing that because I tried to paint some patches of the ceiling at our old house and it didn’t quite work out. But this worked great and didn’t take that much work. After I got that cleaned up we headed upstairs to watch the movie I rented for the night, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. The older kids and I had seen it at the theater and they enjoyed. It actually ended up being a pretty good movie night. The twins even watched part of it in between playing with every toy that decided to pull out and spread all over the family room floor.

Lincoln had his basketball clinic again Saturday morning. I wasn’t sure if they were going to have it because we had a little bit of snow/ice the night before and it seemed like things were still a bit slick. Andrew went out to the ranch earlier that morning and he said the roads were that great. But they still had it and the roads were better by the time we headed out. Molly came over to watch the other kids while we went. They had some agility drills this time and Lincoln had fun with them. It may have been his last day with it since they aren’t having it next week and he’ll have to convince his dad to take him the week after that since I will be out of town. He is already working on it.

After Lincoln’s clinic we had Ellie’s last game and Andrew surprised her by getting back from the ranch earlier enough to go to the game. She did a great job with her last game-just a little hustler and we love that. My parents were there but they sat over by the stairs. Lincoln decided he wanted to go see them and then he came back and took the twins over to see them too. After the game my parents they asked the kids if any of them wanted to go to Kansas City with them after the game and all three of the oldest said yes. I’m not sure if that is what they were expecting. I was glad that Jackson wanted to go because he usually likes to just stick around home. So we headed home to get lunch and get them packed up. My parents came by about an 1 ½ later and they were off to go meet Atticus. They also get to hang out with Briley, Baylor and Finley and go swimming in the pool at the hotel. Andrew went to the office after they left while I made some cookies to take with us the next day, did lots of laundry and got in a long run. We decided to just take it easy and order out so Andrew picked up Mexican for us and brought it home. We thought about watching a movie but we were both pretty tired and Andrew got caught up looking at bikes online for us. Then we also noticed that the house started feeling chilly again and the furnace had stopped working again. We tried a few things to fix it and texted back and forth the repairman with no luck. So he stopped by around nine to check it out. We were close in some of attempts to fix it but he was able to get it going for now. We probably do need to order a new part for it though. We ended up letting the twins stay up later. They were wound up anyways so it wouldn’t have helped putting them to bed. The three of us snuggled into together on one of the chairs while the watched Little Einsteins.

The next morning we were up early. Andrew actually got up first and got a bike ride in and we were on the road a little after 7. I got a text from my mom with a cute picture. Lincoln and Baylor shared a bed at the hotel and Baylor loves to snuggle. Lincoln is a snuggler too but not as much as Baylor :-).

We stopped in Liberty to get some stuff at Sam’s and then went to meet Atticus. Jackson was actually holding him when we got there and asked to hold him again before we left. He was such a cutie and looked like the other three did as babies. Lincoln wanted to hold him too. So we got to visit with all of them for a bit and have some lunch. My parents headed out before we did and Lincoln went with them. Our departure was delayed a bit while we searched for a missing shoe. Andy finally found it wrapped up in a blanket in the basement. As we were getting ready to leave I noticed Miles off in a corner with a suspicious look on his face. I thought maybe he had pooped his pants but then I noticed his coat pocket was bulging. I said something to Andrew and he picked him up and Miles started crying as Andrew pulled several trains out of his pockets. He was trying to steal Baylor’s trains! Then we were wondering where Bennett was and I found him in the playroom stuffing trains in his pockets too. I guess he saw Miles do it and thought it was a good idea. We finally got out of there without stealing anything and headed home.  The kids did great on the way home and slept for a while. I was able to work on the designing the invitation and got it all done but one graphic I needed to find online.  After we got home, I went to my parents to pick up Lincoln and help my mom order some canvases that we gave her for Christmas. Then we headed home, got ready for the next day and then everyone seemed tired and ready for bed.
